Re: March Madness
No one besides Sun belt fans care that JMU is a Sun belt team. Just like our perception of the American East isn’t impacted by the fact that Vermont shows up and gets blasted every year.

Re: March Madness
UGA shot 51% from 3 pt land
FYI, both teams had 17 FT attempts each
But any team hitting 14-27 3pt shots is going to be a hard team to beat.

Re: March Madness
Looks like only one of the refs from the App/wake game officiated the game with georgia. I wonder if that had anything to do with the free throw opportunities being much more even.

I’m just happy that 4 cheaters lost (Self, Calipari, Pearl, Drew - the one at Baylor). But that’s in the past because there are no rules now.

Nor can the casual sports fan name the conference that Florida Gulf Coast or Oakland is in (Most, don't even know that it is in Michigan)

Re: March Madness
Not embarrassing at all. The mid-majors won some games in the first two rounds. JMWho best Wisconsin. It may have been one of the best 3 point shooting nights Dook has had all year...and Edwards two fouls in first 2 minutes of the game did not help their cause.

Re: March Madness
Thursday and Friday of the tournament is for the feel good stuff. The little guy who generally knocks off the power school who probably didn't deserve a bid to begin with. Those stories are typically forgotten by Sunday night. Sweet 16 weeded out the mid major darlings. JMU was good but there is a huge gap between them and Duke.
So much for the demise of the ACC.

Re: March Madness
I think Duke had a wake up call from loss to State in ACC tournament and their early exist from NCAA last year. They played serious ball to win yesterday and would have been a hard matchup for anybody in tournament. It’s possible for them to take it all if they continue that level of play. JMU got caught in the meat grinder at the wrong time and looked helpless.
Duke has played below their potential all season so everybody gave up on them but they are still loaded if the light ever went on. Next week will show whether they maintain that intensity.

Re: March Madness
mostly agree but it also exposed JMU; not able to really compete in the same arena with the p5 elites [money, power, recruiting etc.]AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:19 amI think Duke had a wake up call from loss to State in ACC tournament and their early exist from NCAA last year. Re: March Madness
What I did see is a very determined Duke. If JMU goes into Cameron in December, I don't think you see that level of intensity. JMU and APP earned the respect of their postseason ACC foes. Wake also was not overlooking us and came out with a lot of intensity. That was really good to see. Another stair taken . . .

Byington to Vandy. Woah. Can’t wait to see that contract.

Re: March Madness
More money and better facilities. Roster probably going to be gauged there though. If Edwards goes to Vandy with Byington, JMU is starting over as well.

Re: March Madness
ahead of the State game tonight, I'd like to share a story from my freshman year, 83-83. The next year we got cable in each room, but that year we had one tv in the lobby of each floor. The night that State played Houston for the title, the lobby was packed, standing room only to watch. And every one, every single one, was pulled for the Pack. And when they won, everyone went nuts.
I'd love to see them go on a run like 83. Good luck NC State.
