I'm not impressed with either team in this game. Ive seen Liberty have some good games but not this one.

Liberty’s offense is fairly potent. They would be beaten soundly by a mid pack P5 team, however.

Doesn’t seem like much D in this game.

Exactly. I think our D could hold Liberty.

If Tulane loses and Liberty holds on, Liberty will play in a NY6 game. Look at that schedule then think about that possibility.

I think if we played Liberty's schedule we'd have a chance of also being 12-0

New Mexico's back up QB is tearing it up!

Just watched Liberty’s last score to put up 48. Honestly probably the most pathetic display of defense I’ve ever seen. If we end up playing them in a bowl game I wouldn’t be too concerned.

Would assume Lib has it under control now. Maybe.

I have to think SMU jumps Liberty if they beat Tulane.

I don't think you can put a 2 loss team ahead of an undefeated team. Not like SMU has the greatest wins themselves.

I know I've asked this question before- who exactly decided that there are P5 and G5 conferences? It seems like such an arbitrary thing. Other than joining the Big12 how did Cincinnati, Houston and UCF change? In basketball when it comes down to the Big Dance there is ultimately zero difference in UNC and App. As long as we win our conference we dance. Same in baseball, win and we have a chance to win the tournament. For football us little brothers need a perfect season to have a chance. Tulane is probably better than Liberty but no way a 2 loss SMU gets the NY6 over a 13-0 Liberty.

You may be right, but I think the difference will be very evident if Liberty does indeed play in a NY6 game. Missouri or Penn State will crush Liberty. They would likely beat SMU or Tulane too. I hope Tulane beats SMU so we can end Liberty’s undefeated season in Orlando.

I'm sure the designation started with the media, and I do think it's kind of BS. That said, I have to acknowledge it isn't completely "arbitrary". It's based on the amount of money (athletic budgets) in those conferences and the resulting amount of power and influence. There is a HUGE gap budget-wise between the bottom of the P5 and the rest. The OLD AAC had separated from the other G5 teams, but wth the recent re-alignment, they have fallen back to the pack. I love the fact that the competition gap (on the field) has closed quite a bit! To me, that's what is important. I'm proud that App State has accomplished all that we have on a much smaller budget. Best ROI in sports (my homer opinion)

GO APPS! BEAT TROY!

As previously mentioned, I believe the media handed out the P5/G5 monikers based off the CFP autonomous voting block of the, then 5, major conferences. P5 truly stands for A5 (autonomous 5) since their votes on football matters outweigh the other 5 conferences.

They should always be addressed as the A5 because if conferences were blown up and rebuilt, there’s quite a few A5 programs who wouldn’t make the cut. Look no further than what has happened to the Beavers and Cougars out west.

Does anyone believe Vandy would receive an invite into the SEC a la Texas/OU if they weren’t already apart of that conference? Several teams in the Big10/ACC would also likely be homeless if conferences were rebuilt. Many A5’s are just riding the coattails of the top programs and cashing those checks.

Per your last point, if we are only talking football, yes. 100%. If we are talking all athletics and academics, a team like Vandy would still be in the SEC for being an elite academic institution and a powerhouse in baseball. Same with Duke and Boston College in the ACC. If they weren’t good academic schools with lots of success in sports besides football, the ACC would’ve dropped them years ago.
