Those you listed I would add in there as well. Remember that money matters most so yeah they have not won a ton, have that weird cult, etc. but coaches will go for the resources. I would rather go to FSU, Georgia, Alabama, etc but those jobs are not open right now. A&M is going to likely be the best job available this year.t4pizza wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:38 amYou listed 8 teams that I agree with, I would also add LSU, USC (southern cal), Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and probably Florida State. ALL of those teams have won a National Title in the past 25 years (and with the exception of Tennessee, each had a Heisman Trophy winner) and although some are down now, all have facilities, support, finances (not as much as Texas oil but enough) and successful history. The only thing that A&M has over those teams is MONEY. And yes, I agree, coaches will go there for money. BUT, I really think it is the culture of A&M that keeps them mediocre and prevents them from winning. They seem to think that throwing money at football will get it done and it clearly does not. At some point you have to have a culture of winning to come back to and they have never had that despite the great amount of money they have thrown at it. This is a top down (head of the school and board) issue I really believe. Whatever the top is doing, it is leaving the players and everyone else involved in that TEAM believing that they are just inches away from winning when in fact they are worlds away from it. As an outsider, it just seems entitled, much like UNC football. They have never done anything but really believe that they should be nationally relevant. Money doesn't make a winning school and A&M needs to learn that and start from scratch, maybe then they can find a culture and actually learn how to win.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 12:09 amYou and I are seeing their results and that cult and we think they are mid tier but the reality is the fans are correct. That job is an elite job. There are not 10 better HC jobs in the country. They have elite support, donor money, facilities, etc. Coaches consider them a top 5-7 job for sure. I would say Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, and Clemson would top the list.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:34 pmI find it hilarious how much A&M thinks of themselves. They haven't won a conference title since 1998 when they were in the Big 12 and have never even made the SEC title game. Yet despite that, they think they should be in the championship conversation and that they are a top 5 job. I can think of 8-10 better jobs off the top of my head. Having obscene amounts of money does not make you a good football school or a top job. The arrogance is too funny. I would take a bet right now that the next coach has about the same record as the past two coaches after 5 seasons or so. it just isn't a football school.
As far as what you said about what the next coach, you could be right. They will attract top names though because of the buyout you saw. Imagine knowing that if you suck for 3-4 years you could get fired and still make 50M+ as your buyout. I think we would all take that scenario. Who cares if you win or not. You are set for life.

"A turning point for the Aggies came early last season when Appalachian State upset them 17-14 in College Station. That didn't end up being a good Mountaineers team, as they finished 6-6 and 3-5 in the Sun Belt."
Jimbo can thank us later, maybe with a donation with that 70+ million dollar buyout. It must be nice to get paid 7 million a year until 2031, not to have to work.
$19.3 M within 60 days
first $7.2 M in 120 days
Basically $26.6M by March 11 of next year
then $7.2M a year for 7 more years
With what he's already made, he could buy an island somewhere and fade away.
Speculation for the next coach (heard on the street)
Kiffin
Petrino
Smart
DeBoer
Lanning
No chance Smart is leaving GA, They say Kiffin wants Bama, others......

As did I. We tailgated with some AM alums and they took us on a campus tour and were great. Campus is clean and nice. But big money.PhillyApp1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:01 amI enjoyed the A&M fans, stadium, and experience last year

Same here but toured just around stadium area. It was definitely clean and could tell there is big money. They were in the middle of construction and you could tell that the facility was going to look great. I saw pics recently and there is definitely a lot of money in it.appstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:45 pmAs did I. Re: We got Jimbo fired
Correlation does not equal causation, but it's pretty hilarious to me that OPEC announces they are scaling back production, West Texas oil futures spike, and all of a sudden the A&M athletic department has enough money for Jimbo's buyout.Appst86 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2023 7:16 am...oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.appstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:45 pmAs did I. Now THAT, is hardcore dick mode. I can't imagine any great coach seeing that and thinking man I want to work there. I fully expect Drink to be their next coach.

Re: We got Jimbo fired
That check didn't mean anything to coach.... the contract is all he cares about.... same will happen with the next coach..... $$$$$$$$ are good for any coach accepting a A&M job.
Life changing money for anyone taking the job.
Guaranteed

They do this cool flower bed area in the colors of the team they are playing and change it every week.
