Imagine digging in this hard and claiming you have access to a database for proof and not posting it.

But remember when this all started it wasn’t a fact so that part now checks out.

Just search his last name Kerns
Reported salary $325,000
https://uncdm.northcarolina.edu/salaries/index.php

Scroll down the pdf to Oliver. It's in alphabetical order. His reported salary was $335,000
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source= ... YrnYb-iWtq

Forbes was in the low 200k
https://www.johnsoncitypress.com/sports ... 6e689.html

Then 400k + 200k retention.
https://www.wjhl.com/uncategorized/etsu ... onference/

"Dr. Noland, talking publicly about the raise for the first time, justified the expense by saying ETSU wants to be in the NCAA tournament every year and hopes to follow in the footsteps of mid-major colleges like Wichita State and Gonzaga. He said the new contract also minimizes the risk of losing Coach Forbes to another mid-major conference."

They paid him a lot for a mid major but they were going for broke as Dr. Noland eludes to here thinking they were going to be the next Gonzaga. Obviously that blew up in their faces.

Not trying to join y'all's sausage contest but I was actually curious what the numbers really were.

The contract extension was signed in Feb 2018. Which means it applied to the 2018-2019 season. He didn't leave until 2020. So, I'm assuming they paid that once. So, if so, he was paid $600,000 one year.

Imagine saying because they didn't pay the full contract since he was bought out, that means they were never on the hook to pay over $600k (it was actually 650k before any kind of bonus -- 450k base, 200k retention).

It's a public database. Everyone has access to it. It's provided through the state of Tennessee. Again, google is easy. I can link you to the database, but linking to the specific record is not available.

And it is 100% a fact ETSU can pay more for a basketball coach. It's been proven.

I’ve referenced all those numbers throughout this thread.

So bet is on?

Nope. As I already stated, I have no idea what they are going to offer other candidates. I just know what it's going to take to get Kerns.

I also know they have the ability to pay up to $650k a year.

Facts like paying someone $600k on top of the buy out would be 5% of their total budget?

The current salary they pay is only 15% higher than App’s.

We are headed towards a recession.

You won’t take the bet because the facts are on my side, it’s a good call.

And for the record which started all of this ETSU is 100% a lateral move in mid-major basketball.

I won't take the bet because that was never my argument. My argument is it's going to take a 50% increase to get Kerns. That is still my argument and something I will stick to. In that case, it's not a lateral move.

My argument was never they are going to pay the next coach 50% more than what we pay Kerns so why would I bet on that?

You're probably right. If Kerns is not the option for them, it's not likely to be 500k. But, if Kerns is their choice, it will have to be. He's not going to ETSU for less than that.

In terms of being a mid major, yes it's lateral. But so is Wichita St, St Mary's, Murray State, etc. In terms of pay, if they lure Kerns, it's a 50% increase for him and nowhere close to lateral.

485k is what would be a 50% raise for Kerns. They were paying Forbes 450k base. Not far off and doable if Kerns is their choice. And if Kerns is their choice, that's what it's going to take to get him to agree.

You started they currently pay 50% more. Let’s not rehash that.

Comparing Wichita St and St Mary’s to ETSU is hyperbole.

That is not what I started with at all. If that's how you took it, that's on you. I simply said Kerns would be paid 50% more if he was to become the head coach at ETSU so it's not lateral. In fact, I even said in my very next post after you stated the salaries you can't assume they will pay Kerns the same amount.

I only mentioned those because you said it's lateral simply because it's a mid major school. So are the others. Some mid majors can pay more.

Walker is trying to go G League.
Littleton waiting to see what happens with staff.

Think those are the only 2 that had options to return.

I haven't followed this thread at all, but I would like to know what started this discussion. Is Coach Kerns talking about leaving App?

Couldn’t we match 485k if we wanted to? We just set attendance records TAMU win had some $$$ flowing in and sbc got a media dea raise in 2021 and one is coming next year.

I’m not sure we would be interested in matching 500k but I think we could if we wanted too

We can match, the question is would we.

We need basketball to be a consistent top 150 team. Kerns has the potential to get us there and honestly has had as much success as anyone not named Buzz in the last 40 years.

Considering the athletic department was 20k in the red last year, I'm not sure we could without hurting another program.

I do know we have some more big time donors in the works, so I won't say no, but I don't think matching would be the first option.

If lateral moves like ETSU and Wofford can I know App can.
