Three seasons in. 17-16 9-9 this year. It's a hard knock life for coaches these days. You don't get time to build diddly squat. It's win or go home.

They were trending upward I felt like, going 17-16 with that roster felt like a great year for them

Is every athletic director required to spew the same crap every time he/she fires a coach? It always sounds like the now former coach was fantastic..but we fired him anyway.

I don't know anything about the GS situation, but the current trend in college athletics really isn't healthy. ADs need to have the integrity to evaluate a coach based on a broader set of criteria than just the Ws. I get that it is important to win. I really do. It is not making excuses to acknowledge the realities and complexities of a situation though. The portal has changed the entire landscape and coaches are having to re-learn the recruiting game. I hope Kerns can figure it out. I think he can because I think he's an excellent coach and deserves the chance. Yeah...I know. I'm frustrated too.

I agree with the sentiment above. And I do think ADs apply more factors and information into evaluation than wins and losses. Another news source said that his contract wasn’t renewed. I interpreted that to mean that his contract was up and the AD wasn’t going to grant an extension or a new contract. I don’t view that as a firing. This parting allows the AD to hire a guy without the buyout money strangling his budget. That’s how I read it.

Yeah, the whole landscape of college athletics has shifted with NIL and Portal. Looks like, to me, Stink has recognized that and trying to commit to Athletics. Looks like a good hire in football, baseball is really good and apparently they are not willing to accept .500 in basketball. All this, in the same environment as all G5 schools. Hate to see anyone lose their job but results do matter in todays’ BUSINESS environment.
