I have not paid much attention to FCS football this year except watching the scoreboard of some former Southern Conference foes. But this really caught my eye. Davidson made the PLAYOFFS???

Furman - 31
Elon - 6
I'm rarely happy to see Furman win but, today is one of those times.

Pioneer League gets an auto bid now and Davidson has been a solid team for that league. The PFL should not get one though. I say to get an auto bid your league should have to give the full 63 scholarships but there are no minimums set in FCS.

With the SWAC and MEAC and Ivey not part of the playoffs I see no reason to not let in the non-scholly leagues. They are not getting a bye as the top 8 teams have with 24 teams.

Every year they lose in a blowout. Pioneer League teams are really just D2 caliber in talent and it shows in the playoffs every year. The FCS needs minimum requirements to force teams to fully fund or they drop back down to D2.

Furman looked good today. As did Richmond. I always root for the old rivals

I was not joking or taking swipe at Davidson. I think it is great they have one. Good for them making playoffs. They have done a great job with basketball program. Hopefully the new leadership can continue what former coach built. He is in the family.

Can confirm, ten year old me was there. It was either my first or second APP game ever

Soph. At APP at the time. I recall Davidson was coached by a former military guy. As we were watching warm-ups they were very regimented and disciplined. As I recall we whipped them good. I’m guessing that was my first APP away game.

Yes. Actually it was our first win against a SoCon team. I was junior at App and it was in 1971. We were technically an independent and became a member in 1972.

Gardner-Webb (who lost to Coastal by 4, Liberty by 1 when they were streaking, lost to Marshall 21-7 and beat Robert Morris 48=0) went into Eastern Kentucky as a road underdog and advanced 52-41.

I watched most of the Gardner Webb with flashbacks of sitting in a deluge at EKU years ago.It was entertaining.Lamb has done a nice job there.
