Kennesaw State
Looks like they’re getting an invite to conference usa to get a foothold in the Atlanta area.

Re: Kennesaw State
Yikes. There are too many teams in fbs as it is. Montana and NDSU are the only teams that should move up and there are a good 20 candidates that should move down. Yuck

Re: Kennesaw State
A stadium with a capacity of 8,000, a $19m athletic budget and a storied 7 year history.
It’s no wonder the top of the FBS wants to break away.
I’m very comfortable staying there are FCS programs that were/are ready to move up (JMU, us, NDSU, Montana) and there are FBS teams that should still be in FCS building their brand (UNCC, Ga State, FIU).
Kennesaw firmly sits in that latter.

Re: Kennesaw State
There are probably 30+ that should move down. Almost the entire MAC has no business in FBS, most new CUSA should go back down, and we got a couple in the Sun Belt who should. UCONN and UMASS both should drop down to FCS as well.

Re: Kennesaw State
If the P5 leagues break away then I hope we can somehow form a league that breaks away with them or they bring along the Sun Belt. If they do break away we would basically be back in I-AA/FCS with just another name. I think 70% of current G5 was I-AA or FCS or a startup in the last 20 years at one time now?ah59396 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 9:52 pmA stadium with a capacity of 8,000, a $19m athletic budget and a storied 7 year history.

Re: Kennesaw State
Just watch them add Tarleton State, Stephen F. Austin, Missouri State, or someone like that in FCS. I bet there are 3-4 schools in CUSA who have been in the league a long time that would gladly jump to the Sun Belt if they could.

Re: Kennesaw State
Yes. The NCAA or some new entity should enforce the minimum average attendance requirements. Perhaps the minimum should be moved from 15k to 20k. Maybe the FBS rule should be a minimum $$$ on athletic department budget?
Kennesaw has 40k students. With an athletic fee similar to AppState of $1050 per year they can pretty easily finance a FBS athletic department with the +$40mm from students plus corporate $$$ which are much much easier to come by in a metro of 6mm people. The stadium was designed as a soccer complex that may be difficult or not worth trying to expand. But if we can officially state that we have a 30k capacity then why can't they just say that they have a 15k capacity?

It seemed at the time we got the invite to join the Sunbelt we were somewhat disappointed not to go into CUSA. Thank the lord things worked out the way they have in the Belt! Really could not have worked out much better for us and I also think App has been a big part of adding cred to the Sunbelt.

Re: Kennesaw State
At the time CUSA looked like the better league but they have lost their best to the AAC and they have chosen markets over good programs so their football has taken a big step back. Their commissioner is someone who did not play football and is really over her head in the job. App is definitely a huge part to adding credibility to the league. App raised the bar in the league and along with what Napier did, the adds of CCU and Georgia Southern, and now adding Marshall and JMU the league is no question the top G5 league once Cincy and UCF go to the Big 12. The top 6 conference champs will get in the playoff and you could argue that going forward if we win the Sun Belt that we will likely get in the playoff in the new 12-team format.Yosefus wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 1:21 pmIt seemed at the time we got the invite to join the Sunbelt we were somewhat disappointed not to go into CUSA. If CUSA had picked App instead of others I firmly believe CUSA would have stayed ahead of the SBC. They didn’t.

Re: Kennesaw State
News today that Colorada State and Airforce to the AAC. My bet is that is because Memphis and SMU are headed to the big12.
The Sunbelt should own the 6th spot with the new lineup. Our biggest problem will be BoiseSt, Fresno or San Jose out of an easy MWC. I could see some undefeated teams making it out of that easy conference. The Sunbelt East is going to make it tough to go undefeated.

Re: Kennesaw State
Why would AF and CSU join the AAC if Memphis and SMU leave? Add travel costs and play weaker opponents?

Re: Kennesaw State
Likely true. I would think other schools would have gone with us and JMU would have gone to CUSA because of App, Marshall, and ODU. CUSA commissioner and presidents blew it. They are basically a FCS caliber league now. About to add schools that just started in last few years. If they add Tarleton they were just D2 recently. Would be mega fast rise from D2 to FBS.

Re: Kennesaw State
They went with the markets. AAC is doing the same thing. There's a reason SBC is about to have the highest pay check from Mickey.

Re: Kennesaw State
Good question...Maybe the PAC 12 is about to be raided and the MWC names are back filling and Colorado St and Air Force want off the sinking ship. Air Force would be with NAVY. This would blow my theory of a weak MWC.
At the end, I see a p4 and a G6 and Conf-USA (Pac12 being a g6)
or a P3 (BIG12, big10 and SEC) G6 Pac becoming g6 and ACC leftovers will be interesting becoming g6. Hopefully we sit tight.

Indeed. Got to take the best programs and not just market. Markets don't matter if nobody in the market is watching or going to the games.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 4:56 pmThey went with the markets. AAC is doing the same thing. Re: Kennesaw State
Haven't seen that news anywhere. You may be looking articles from a year ago because it was at this time last year the the AAC tried to get the MWC teams to jump over.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sat Oct 08, 2022 3:39 pmNews today that Colorada State and Airforce to the AAC.
