North Carolina football’s long-standing series against Virginia, nicknamed the South’s Oldest Rivalry, will endure as part of the ACC’s new scheduling model that begins in 2023 and scraps the league’s divisional format.
In-state rivals Duke and NC State join Virginia as the Tar Heels’ primary opponents in the conference’s new 3-5-5 structure announced Tuesday.
Matchups against those primary opponents continue annually across a four-year cycle from 2023-26, while UNC will play the ACC’s other 10 teams twice during that period, once at home and once on the road.
The new scheduling model calls for each ACC team to face all 13 conference opponents, home and away, at least once during the four-year cycle.

Interesting that Clemson is included in NCSU's three primary opponents and the Heels drew UVA.

It seems like a good fit for both to me. Each set has similar schools. Plus, one set is football focused while the other is basketball focused.

Back in the day - they had a great rivalry called The Textile Bowl ---

I think UNC got a very favorable 3-team match-up --- No Clemson - No Miami - No VT - No FSU ???

Wake Forest got a raw deal out of this new plan and hopefully they will schedule regular home and home with us as a result. They will need to schedule some games that will result in strong attendance because Duke and GaTech will bring no fans and the same for VaTech unless they get their program turned around.
Wake, schedule an annual home and home with AppState.

You'd think it might be Bama and Georgia, but CHeat and Virginia have "the Oldest College Football Rivalry in the South." I'm sure they worked to preserve that, and I'm glad they did. Change, over time, is inevitable, but too much tradition has gone by the wayside.

Wake will add Heels and State more often, if not every year, as a nonconference opponent. If not both sane year, play them every other year. Similar to Heels playing Deacs in nonconference game in the past. I have to believe that had to be part of the unwritten agreement for Wake to agree to not playing either State or Carolina each year. Just my opinion

I don't know about that - I would think the ACC would push their teams to schedule at least a couple of OOC games against the coalition conferences - Big 10 and Pac 12 - plus they will have ND showing up every so often --- I see no value in playing an ACC in-state team except for attendance ---

Not being rude but who really cares who UNC plays unless it is us OOC?

I may be the only one who cares. Getting their arses beaten by any team makes my day.

After today's puppet show (sponsored by your friends at B1G, USC & UCLA), the remaining P5 conference alignments aren't worth the paper they're written on anymore. The big shakeup we've all been waiting for has begun.
Between NIL, the transfer portal, the abject failure of NCAA to provide any leadership and the power conferences preparing to do their own thing...I have no expectations anymore for college football. Mind you, I'm not giving up on it and I'll bleed Black & Gold forever. But nothing will surprise or disappoint me going forward.
