The newly hired AD for Toledo sat down with members of a Fan Message Board to discuss Toledo Athletics. Here is the link to the article. https://www.toledoblade.com/sports/ut/2 ... 220611129/
One interesting blurb from the conversation was when a fan asked what it would take for Jason Candle, (current football coach) to keep his job. Here is the response. As you are reading, keep in mind the recent conversation about our baseball program.
“What, in your opinion — be a straight shooter on this — what is it going to take for [Candle] to keep his job?” he asked Blair. “What record are you looking at?”
“There’s not a record,” the boss replied. “You can’t evaluate a program solely based on wins and losses. There’s just so much more that goes into it, in terms of looking at injuries, trajectory, who you’re bringing back, how the team plays, as far as the start of the season and the end of the season. Now, wins and losses is certainly part of it, but to say there’s a safe-harbor line vs. there’s a line where you’re not safe, and that difference is one game, I’m not sure that’s the best way to evaluate a program.”

Re: A Fan’s Perspective
Off topic (kind of), but Candle is the epitome of why coaches leave teams when they have the right opportunity. Candle was near, or at, the top of the next best P5 candidate a few years ago. He decided to stay at Toledo. Now, he's on the hot seat. Sure, he may have been on the hot seat at a P5 as well, but he would have at least quadrupled his salary annually before getting on that hot seat. And be set up to never have to work again if he didn't want to -- in his 40s.

Re: A Fan’s Perspective
hes right but I still think you dont mansplain the big picture to an angry fanbase. At the end of the year, W-L are all that matters to a fanbase and AP/ESPN whatever.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 10:45 amThe newly hired AD for Toledo sat down with members of a Fan Message Board to discuss Toledo Athletics. Re: A Fan’s Perspective
Wins and losses are not all that matters. If they were, schedule LR and GW and WCU, etc and get the wins. The greatest gates are against great opponents. Also, no matter how many games a team wins if it’s players slam helmets, do stupid stuff on the field, get in trouble off the field, etc. It all ads up.
