As opposed to staying in a dying CUSA? What was the better option?

But what were the options for Charlotte? And from those options which was the best option for them in your view? You said they screwed up with the move, and I am curious what you think would have been better.

I seriously doubt it. The Sun Belt is becoming a big time conference (define "big time" for yourself) Men's soccer will be one of the strongest conferences in the NCAA. Baseball is also strong and getting stronger. Football speaks for itself! Whatever the AAC was in its heyday, the Belt will supersede it soon.

I honestly see no reason that App should even consider leaving the SunBelt for the current version of the AAC. Our current situation is much more favorable in terms of competition and travel.

Re: UNCC $100 Million Athletic Upgrades
i'm 99% confident we weren't.
We do not fit the AAC institutional profile at all.
but i tend to agree that the SBC East fits us way better than the new AAC. Sure its nice to play a home game in Charlotte and vs ECU, but i'm confident that we will continue to see OOC matchups with both teams going forward.
Otherwise the AAC has some great schools, but nobody that will move the needle for our fanbase except possibly Navy and Memphis basketball.

This announcement sets a timeline for Charlotte's move into the AAC. We all already knew they were going into the AAC, this just officially announces a moved-up date to July 1, 2023.

Re: UNCC $100 Million Athletic Upgrades
From my understanding we were asked to choose between AAC which showed good interest, and the development of the new and improved Sun Belt with more regional conference mates. I've heard UL was offered too. We both said, with the improvements in The Belt and both schools having some influence, yes to the Belt. I'm glad we stayed and that the Belt is going to make the current AAC look like stale gravy, until they get on their feet.
Unconfirmed, yes. But I was hearing and reading about a lot of smoke.......And where there's smoke........

Y'all should skim the thread from last fall when the AAC lost the big schools.

Re: UNCC $100 Million Athletic Upgrades
That’s interesting. I am sure that the AAC and Doug and Sheri did have conversations, and maybe there was genuine interest from the AAC, but I just don’t think we could get the votes. Remember Aresco et. al do the legwork, but the ultimate decision comes from university presidents. We do not fit the profile at all. Maybe if we were R2 we could get the votes. I just don’t see the presidents of Navy, Tulane smu and Tulsa voting for a masters level school.appstate77 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 7:45 pmFrom my understanding we were asked to choose between AAC which showed good interest, and the development of the new and improved Sun Belt with more regional conference mates.
