Anyone else cheering for Michigan in the Orange Bowl? Ever since the upset I’ve always liked them. Would love to see them get back on top again.
Well geez apparently I cursed them again

I don't think its going to matter all that much because in 10-20 years the money movers are going to steam roll the NCAA and college is going to be a full blown minor league system that happens to have student athletes or maybe even just sponsored athletes who aren't even students.
and better than half the G5s will no longer exist.

This is gonna be ugly. It’s a shame that many feel like the hopes of all G5 schools ride on Cincinnati today. If we run the table next year I’d hope that we are in the discussion. You never know what can happen
If App runs the table next year you'll get the media coverage that comes with it but I don't think you'd be in the discussion based on how the committee has done things in the past. Cincy had to go on a 2 year run. Same with us at UCF. We never made it like Cincy did but we got closer in 2018 than 2017 because now it was year 2 of a sustained NY6 caliber team.

Big difference between Cincy run and ucf. UCF did not play anyone of significance in their run until bowl game. Cincy played ND which I believe was ranked in top 10 and had a decent year overall.

Everyone is forgetting that if that Oklahoma St RB had gotten one more inch most likely they would have jumped Cincy

Bama and UGA are that much better than everyone else. This was predicted by most mid-season.

Both schools would have rolled ND, Ok St, Utah, etc if given four weeks to prepare. That gap in time is a huge advantage.

I had several people tell me over the last couple of weeks that if it were Bama and UGA again they weren't watching. Why wouldn't you want to watch the two best teams play?

It just gets old watching same teams or combination of teams it seems each year. This is why I would like to have 8, 12, 16 team. Although probably wishful thinking..with more teams in.. better chance of different teams....Jim Carrey quote..so your saying I have a chance

It should not effect the future because Alabama destroys other P5 teams like Notre Dame and others.

As for us, we need to show we can actually go undefeated against average and slightly good teams before we even think about us being in the discussion. Also, there is buzz that the A&M game won't happen and if our only good games are CCU and UNC then we have no shot. Our schedule won't be strong enough. We really would need to beat 2 good P5 teams and run the table to deserve any discussion.

It is the exact two teams I expected and I am going to watch. I can see why some would not just because we saw this game before. I know some who told me they would not watch our SBC title game because they expected UL to beat us by double digits after the whipping we took in the first one. Some people just don't like to see a rematch.

Had to read my undefeated App quote again. I purposefully said that I would hope we would be in the discussion. I know how it would most likely shake out and also said that you never know. Even if we knock off A&M in College Station and UNC in Boone along with 11 other wins- including possibly knocking off La twice that will be really impressive no matter how our opponents finish. We can debate this to death and argue the pros and cons but the reality is that the Alabama’s and Georgia’s get the majority of the studs and no matter how we practice, coach and “Hoosier up the team” it is a world of difference between the best G5’s and those semipro teams.

What's the buzz about not playing the A&M game next year?

It would also be nice to settle 3 - 12. I would like to see the top 4 get a bye so the G5 rep gets to prove they are better than UNC and Notre Dame....eat away at the bias over years. If not the g5 rep is going to get the Alabama or Georgia of the year each year.

Is it just me or do these other “big” bowls just not feel the same as they did in the past? Maybe it’s because the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta are played the day after the CFP or maybe because they just don’t carry the same level of excitement?

I agree about the bye idea. I’ve said that for years. Give the top 4 teams a bye, eliminate the CCG’s and play the big 4 bowls with the winners advancing to play the bye teams (at their home stadiums) in the quarters and semi’s. Any undefeated G5 with probably 2 P5 wins would have to be at least ranked 12th. Eliminating CCG’s allows for that extra possible playoff game. Those initial bowl games could even be played before Christmas.

That ND game for sure was key. But my original point is that it takes a 2 year run to set up. Cincy's 2020 season results made it so they'd be pre-season ranked as 8 in the AP and 10 in the coaches poll. Makes the climb easier.

I'll be salty though and say they got more voter poll love than we did. Though part of that comes from their coaching stability. 2017 UCF finished undefeated with a NY6 win ranked 6/7. 2018 UCF started the preseason ranked 21/23. 2020 Cincy finished 9-1 with a NY6 loss and ranked 8/8. 2021 Cincy started the preseason ranked 8/10. Essentially right where they left off.

It would be highly unusual for a school to cancel a game 10 months before it is set to be played.

The second game of the season is going to be a great.
