CCU not wanting to play Troy

I can’t understand their mentality. You play the schedule your dealt any other season, even if the last game or 2 does not change your place in the league standings. Sounds like they are getting into their own heads about how well they will be able to compete against ULL in the conference championship game.

If they feel that way put all the back ups in and deal with it. Otherwise play and then play again in a week like normal.

But they want to preserve there 0 in the loss column to remain eligible for NY6. They want to skip a game that should have been played and does have meaning all because ULL has the equivalent of a bye this week because their schedule played out a different way. Sounds weak to me

Well, I get being frustrated that ULL gets an extra week, and maybe the SBC or ESPN or whoever should have pressured them to schedule an OOC game for this week. But those quotes by Chadwell... good lord those are bad. What a temper tantrum.

I was pulling for them, but after reading that, I hope Troy lays a whooping on them.

Beat southern.

Be honest. We be saying the same thing if we were in their situation. Especially with the ACC setting a precedent.

Interesting nugget at the end of the article:

The Sun Belt got good ratings on Friday as well, as the Louisiana-Appalachian State contest registered 1,014,500 viewers on ESPN, ranking as the third-most viewed intra-conference Sun Belt game in ESPN history. The matchup was up from the Sun Belt Championship between the same two teams in each of the past two seasons.

I for one would not.

I hope we’d have the good sense to keep our mouths shut. This is not a good look for a neophyte program that touts the “anybody, any time” mantra.

Forfeit the game and give Troy the W and CCU the L, case closed.

I guess the CCU fan that had the “We want Bama” sign for most of the season needed to be more specific about which school in Alabama. Seriously, if you don’t want to take on Troy, you shouldn’t waste your time calling on the Crimson Tide.

Chadwell says the game means nothing to anyone except to them. Might want to tell that to the Troy coaches and players. A chance to finish 6-5 and be bowl eligible. A chance to take down the 13th ranked team. Talk about bulletin board material.

And how is Lafayette having an "open date" any different than a team having an open date before a big game during a regular season.

True, but we would be thinking it. In a normal season when games are played as scheduled (and the schedule should be set up to where no one team can have the advantage of an off week prior to a conference championship game) it wouldn't be a problem. But this is no normal season. ULL has an advantage and I'd rather there be no room for question or doubt if ULL wins. That's why the ACC made their decision, to make the playing field as even as possible for a championship game.

Because we're talking about the conference championship game, not a regular season game. It's a huge advantage to have an open date before any game, even more so the championship game. Suppose the CCU QB gets hurt, or another key player? That would be a shame. And, as I said earlier, we would be concerned about it as well.

The CCU QB could have been hurt in any game this season, why even play at all. To make it "fair" (for Coastal) maybe the Conference should move the game up one week. And, to be "fair" to Troy play the damn game.

The best thing everyone with CCU could do/could have done is just shut-up, say nothing -if the SBC decided to cancel the game then complain that they wanted to play every game and then tell your wife - I am glad we are playing ---

So this is on a related subject but not exactly the same thing ---

What do you guys think of the preference Ohio State is getting?
(if this needs to be a separate thread please move it)

It's absolute garbage to be frank. The Big10 screwed the pooch on earning a spot in the CFP this season. Having a team play 6 games get into the CFP is a joke(but it will happen). They will have played two quality teams and 4 awful teams, they have done nothing to be deserving of their position.
