Stupid. They had the guy an hour down the road and chose a “name”.

Except that "name" has 1) coached at SC, 2) recruited the best players to ever play there, 3) alumni of the program went out of their way to stump for him, 4) oh and is one of the hottest names in the coaching ranks.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:13 amStupid. Yes Beamer has no HC experience, but Chadwell has zero experience at a P5 program in any capacity. What head coaching experience did Lincoln Riley have before Oklahoma? None. How about Ryan Day at OSU? None. Here is a fun one how much HC experience did Dabo have before he was named the HC at Clemson? None. Are those guys "names" or are they really good coaches? Time will tell how Beamer does at SC but it's really lazy to say they hired a "name". Shane made sure that his resume could stand out without his dad's name on it. He has coached under Fullmer, Spurrier, Croom, Smart, Riley; the young man is more than qualified for this job and if it wasn't SC another P5 was going to hire him.

Wonder if he'll still be there when the Gamecocks come to Boone in 2025...

You're not wrong, unless he ends up at UT. The only fan base in the SEC more delusional than SC is UT. Going to be fun to watch it all play out.

Tennessee has a rich , rich football tradition, no real instate competition and virtually unlimited resources. There is no comparison.

The only times they have be relevant in the past 20 years is when they hire a new coach. You're 100% correct in every point you made, but Tennessee is just a mediocre program for 20 years, they no longer move the needle. But yet the powers that be keep thinking "The Next Guy" will put them back on top, nothing could be further from the truth. It's going to be a long time before UT means anything to the national landscape again.
