I think there are a number of low-level OOS P5s we could potentially get to Boone like this. Wouldn't want a 2-for-1 with Kansas, but would love to play home and home with someone like KU/BC/Syracuse/Iowa State etc.

Agreed, and once you set precedent for 2 for 1s it will be harder to negotiate home & home with other P5 schools. Still, it's more sexy news for the Chants this week and they need to be building enthusiasm. I will extend them a cautious congratulations on this.
