I have suggested him before, but most people seem to think that it is out of the realm of possibility. I don't know the issues that people speak about at WF, but App is certainly a very different situation.
I think it's out of the realm of possibility because of Gaudio's record. The guy is 129–155 in head coaching stops at Army, Loyola (Maryland) and Wake. The only place he had a winning record was at Wake--and that was done with Skip Prosser's players. There are dozens of guys out there with better work records (winning percentages) and better people skills.

Shaka Smart to Marquette? Really? He turned down UCLA and accepted Marquette? I don't get that one.

I was actually surprised that VaTech got Buzz Williams. No question that from a basketball standpoint he took a step backward, but I guess Marquette can't match the P5 money.

Smart is a Wisconsin native and some there want to anoint him as the next UW Badger coach-in-waiting for the day Bo Ryan retires. Smart, however, left home vowing never to return because of the racism he faced as a child and teen. Wonder if really big money will eventually turn his head? UCLA didn't have enough!

If I'm not mistaken I heard Tony Kornheiser say he actually took LESS money to go to VT ---

I read somewhere that only Duke spends more per player than Marquette. It obviously wasn't a question of money. I believe he made $3m at Marquette versus the $2.8 Tech will pay him.

Early Coaching Candidates for UNC-W Vacancy

http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/2 ... /140319599

It's a small world after all...UNC-W has a short list and some of the names are pretty familiar to ASU fans.

UNC-W assistant Eddie Biedenbach
UNC-W assistant Houston Fancher
Wofford head coach Mike Young
Georgia Southern head coach Mark Byington
NC State Assistant Bobby Lutz
and several others...

I'm usually fairly ambivalent towards the goings on with UNC-Wilmy but something about them competing with us for the same caliber of coach in basketball (even though basketball is their "money" sport) irks me, just slightly. I guess I like to think that if we're competing with a down east school for coaches it's ECU, and not the Seahawks of the world.

I don't doubt there are people with better winning percentages. I also think too many discount the job he did at Wake, even with Skip's players, considering the way he got that job. I also would take an almost .500 guy with HC experience over our last experiment. I am by no means saying Gaudio should be a front-runner, just a name to consider.

James Dickey has stepped down at Houston due to a traumatic family matter that requires all of his time and energy. His resignation was from out of the clear blue and took the Houston fandom by complete surprise and disappointment.

Kelvin Sampson just happens to be across town with the Houston Rockets and is chompin' at the bits to get back into the collegiate ranks after his five-year ban by the NCAA for misdeeds at Oklahoma and Indiana.

Almost too convenient!

That $60,000 USF spent on a search firm has cost Masiello the coaching job there. The search firm found some, as yet, undisclosed discrepancy in Masiello's background check. USF rescinded the $1+ million per season, 5-year contract. Now Masiello is in limbo; no job at USF and unclear as to whether he can return to Manhattan, or whether they will let him.

From ESPN...

No Diploma, No USF Job For Masiello

Masiello Didn't Graduate From UK, Loses USF Job

Manhattan coach Steve Masiello never graduated from the University of Kentucky, as indicated on his résumé, and his falsifying this information eliminated him from getting the University of South Florida job, multiple sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

David Manning/USA TODAY Sports

South Florida rescinded a five-year offer to Manhattan's Steve Masiello after finding the coach lied on his résumé about graduating from Kentucky, sources told ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy.
On the Manhattan and Louisville official websites -- Masiello was an assistant at Louisville from 2005 to 2011 before becoming head coach at Manhattan in 2011 -- it indicated he was a 2000 graduate of Kentucky with a degree in communications.

However, Masiello did not graduate from Kentucky, UK spokeswoman Ashley Caressen told ESPN. Masiello attended UK from the fall of 1996 to the summer of 2000 but never earned his degree, Caressen said.

Caressen said Masiello contacted the UK's registrar office on Tuesday, but she said his conversation with the registrar's office "was confidential."

Jason Charney, Masiello's agent, declined comment Wednesday. Numerous attempts to reach Masiello have been unsuccessful.

Rick Pitino, who coached Masiello as a freshman at Kentucky in 1997 and had him on his staff at Louisville, was stunned by the news as the Cardinals are preparing for their NCAA tournament game against the Wildcats.

"If it's accurate, I'm shocked by it," Pitino said. "I had no idea. I left the previous year, and he was on track to graduate."

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich told ESPN.com that he was unaware that Masiello had not graduated from Kentucky.

"
Pitino If it's accurate, I'm shocked by it. I had no idea. I left the previous year, and he was on track to graduate.
"
-- Louisville coach Rick Pitino, about
Steve Masiello not graduating from UK

"I knew [Coach] Rick [Pitino] was comfortable with him," Jurich said. "He played for Rick, and Rick knew all about his background."

Tuesday morning, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported that Masiello had been offered and verbally accepted a five-year deal worth more than $1 million a year to become USF's coach. However, late Tuesday night, the Tampa Tribune reported USF was forced to kill the deal with Masiello because of a previously undetected background check.

It isn't clear whether Masiello is eligible to return to Manhattan in the wake of the deal falling through.

Masiello and Manhattan were coming off a close loss to defending national champion Louisville and Pitino in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Masiello has a 60-39 record in three seasons at Manhattan.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com contributed to this report.

Wojo to Marquette

Can those thoughts about luring Duke assistant Steve Wojciechowski to an office at HCC. He's Marquette bound. The deal has been drawn--the announcement should come as early as tomorrow or Thurs.

Wake will have to look elsewhere, also.

South Florida *finally* gets someone to say yes!

Orlanda Antiqua, Kentucky assistant, will be named head coach of South Florida, replacing Stan Heath. Antiqua has spent the past 5 seasons at Kentucky.

Antiqua was at least fifth choice at USF. The first had a falsified VITA; and at least three others declined the school's offer. Ouch!
