Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Five level one violations and lack of institutional control are going to be tough to defend. Agree there will be no death penalty but NCAA may find themselves in an impossible position giving the headwinds faced. Tarheels would have been better off had they come clean back at the start of this mess. Couldn't come at a worse time for the NCAA and UNC from a political and legal perspective

Swofford was AD of UNC-CH from 1980 to 1997. If the violations go back that far, he should resign as commish of the ACC.
I bet most Tar Heel fans are just hoping the violations don't cost the 2015-16 MBB team their post-season since they'll have a legit shot to win it all.

The NCAA will have to act in some manner after the penalties they levied against the Cuse and Boheim.
IIRC, Boheim is suspended for 9 ACC games next season, vacated 100+ wins of Boheim, Cuse has to pay back funds from the Big East revenue sharing, loss in scholarships over the next 3-4 years, reduction in recruiters over the next 2 seasons and a couple of other penalties.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I listened to The David Glenn Show today and the info was released while he was live on the air so he hadn't had time to read all the 57 pages and the added documents, however he did express his thoughts - I can't think of anyone (commentator) who I would listen to about this more so than him with his background of covering sports and being an attorney. He says there is NO similarity between UNC and Boeheim - the Syracuse LOA noted Boeheim specifically like 9 times - Roy was not mentioned. I inferred from what he was saying that he didn't expect any forfeiture of wins nor titles with the reason being that the NCAA DID NOT say that the paper classes were something they would look at any further nor investigate if those classes kept any athletes eligible - therefore saying that was an Accreditation concern NOT an Athletic concern --- David commented that if that had not been the case then UNC would have been totally hammered - his feeling is this is not the worst that could have happened but with the "failure of institutional control" they will not skate free either ---

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
David Glen is a UNC homer and always has been. He has a law degree but he has never practiced law. Just more of the UNC PR spin.
How many millions of dollars have they spent for this result? I think its over 9 mil to deny, deflect, obfuscate, lie, cheat and steal.
The whole unc system needs reform, equal representation for all system schools, not a majority of smug lying cheats from UNC. Swofford should be fired as ACC Commissioner.

Would agree with you regarding unc but couldn't disagree with you more about David Glenn. He was a practicing attorney for 17 years and he is the most fair and unbiased guy on the radio. He in fact was the guy who broke the stories on unc and Matt Daughtery.

UNCCH will throw every sport under the bus to save as much face as possible for the men's basketball program.

"What happens next? North Carolina will be hit hard even if a fraction of the allegations hold up before the infractions committee. But despite the NCAA's threatening language Thursday, remember the school will be subject to the old (more lenient) penalty structure.
More punitive measures didn't go into effect until 2013. This case ended in 2011.
Williams is seemingly safe. So are former football coaches Butch Davis, John Bunting and (interim) Everett Withers. Poor Larry Fedora, the current coach. The guy inherited this mess.
What penalties hurt the most? Probably some sort of Penn State-like cram down. Bust UNC to the brink of the death penalty. This time, it will be deserved.
What will happen? Probably postseason bans for both major sports. Throw in women's basketball, too, if you care. Scholarships as well. Some sort of fine.
In the end, this is going to look a lot like USC. Athletes who had absolutely nothing to do with the violations are going to pay for the sins of the past.
That oughta clean things up, right?"

NCAA is in a no-win position. TV money limits what they can do with revenue sports, while the legal considerations and court of public opinion will force them to take some meaningful action.

Just from reading LinkedIn, Glenn's various online bios and doing the simple arithmetic, he couldn't have practiced law on a full-time basis at any time since passing the bar exam in 1994. And you mentioned that he "was" a practicing attorney; and "was" is correct. For whatever reason, he's not credentialed to practice law in NC now according to... http://www.lawyer.com/david-glenn.htmlWVAPPeer wrote:Would agree with you regarding unc but couldn't disagree with you more about David Glenn. As for the 17 years; it's hard to find 17 months given all of his business ventures, speaking engagements and the research he'd have to do for talk radio.

Thank you Chuck, I guess if you count wills he may have actually practiced law.... As for Matt Daugherty, Smokey Glenn was towing the PTB line to help get rid of him.asu66 wrote:Just from reading LinkedIn, Glenn's various online bios and doing the simple arithmetic, he couldn't have practiced law on a full-time basis at any time since passing the bar exam in 1994. Nope. Don't care to high jack the thread any further.
Just hope the ncaa does their job, and unc gets everything they deserve.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I do agree with you there but it won't happen --- it is clear - well, as about as clear as looking thru a thick fog with dirty glasses, that the program which will get the brunt of the "sanctions" will be women's basketball - that will be the target that the NCAA will use to show that they, the NCAA, took this seriously - What a joke!!! - football might get a little heat but they were the ones who took all the punishment the last time, and men's basketball might, MIGHT, lose a scholarship or two and maybe some recruiting restrictions but I will be shocked if they get a post-season ban and/or have wins/banners vacated --- Just not going to happen to UNC Men's Basketball ---Longrifle28 wrote:

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Like I said a few months back: they're not going to be hit hard with sanctions. Syracuses sanctions will be far more debilitating than anything Carolina will see. Carolina will see a big fine, no banners taken down and no wins will be vacated. Maybe a lost scholarship, if that, and women's basketball might miss a postseason. Football won't see anything pressing, nor men's bball.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
2 decades'ish of academic fraud = 1 year of probation........wow......and people wonder why our nation is having certain issues. So if I hold up a bank and steal millions of dollars will I get 10 days of house arrest and 10 hours of community service?
