Terry Holland probably doesn't fire Ruffin unless there's a reason that most of us can't see.

I know for a fact there are some BIG supporters that did not want McNeill at ECU. They have done well in my opinion, but the BIGs want to compete for championships.

Thant's a little bit of a shocker. All the best for Coach.

ECU has always been, and will always be, the "step child" in this state; no matter the shade of purple pirate glasses they have on. I am doubtful we'd lose anyone from our staff to ECU. New contracts, and frankly, a much better situation than being out East. Just saying.

My brother-in-law is a Pirate Club annual season ticket holder ECU supporter and he really liked Ruffin. I hate to see this happen to what I think it a real stand-up coach with integrity. I wish Ruffin the best.

Riley's name is being tossed around for the South Carolina job, and reportedly he has already interviewed in Columbia. Assuming the Sooners make the CFP with his offense, there's no way ECU can afford him anymore. He's headed straight for the NFL Development League somewhere in the "South East."

I think the ECU AD has made a huge mistake cutting Ruffin in a year with so many HC positions open. As much as I cannot wait for App to surpass the ECU football program, I'd rather not have it happen due to poor administration . . .

Ruffin was a former assistant coach at App, wasn't he?

As soon as I saw the thread one word came to mind. If I didn't read it on a post I was going to type it:

Elliott was a player when Ruffin was the DC. If I'm Elliott I don't trust the ECU AD.

I will be surprised if Elliott's next job is anything other than as a P5 OL coach. But then I'm surprised all the time, so...

Ruffin was extremely popular in Greenville and you don't treat an alum like this.
Well, we don't have to look far to find a coach who was willing to take the HC job after his mentor was controversially let go.

I don't think that would stop Riley from taking the job if it were offered. I just wonder if he might hold out for a better opportunity. His name's already being linked to P5 openings this year.

Definitely not an apples to apples comparison to Jerry/Satt. Jerry's contract ran out and he was not renewed. Ruffin got a contract extension through 2017 from the current ECU AD and 18 months later is fired. Big difference.

Agreed. Scott was also on staff when the non-renewal went down. Riley is not on ECU's staff. There are some differences, and if I'm Riley I'm not picking up the phone...not because of how they did Ruffin, but he's a candidate for South Carolina's job. If he can get interviews at that level, why go back to ECU and struggle with a wishy-washy AD?

That's the point I was making. He might go to ECU if no P5 job comes through this year... or he might decide to hang around Norman and spend another year dropping 50 a week on Big 12 defenses, then see what opens up in the future.

If I were Lincoln I'd stay at Oklahoma for the very reason that I couldn't trust the ECU AD as far as I could throw him. If beating ACC teams and averaging 9 wins a season isn't good enough I'd stay away. If another P5 program comes calling who knows.

Terry Holland is not the ECU AD.

I know.

Terry Holland hired him.

Terry Holland is no longer the ECU AD.

Hence...

As I reread my post, I see how I didn't make that clear, though. Should've broken up that last sentence.

The current AD has been there two and half years and gave Ruffin an extension shortly after taking over.

9+ Wins a year didn't save Jerry Moore at APP did it? The powers that be at APP wanted to take our program to another level, same dream at ECU, they just don't think Ruffin is their man, as APP didn't think Moore was theirs. The changes had nothing to do with the class acts both men are.

Some have already mentioned Satt as someone ECU might pursue.
