I shall call him...Mini Mo.

Cobbs wife was paid 18k to be an asst. coach. Really set up the family with that sweetheart deal.

Hiring a qualified and professional individual and paying them less than market as a stop gap seems to be good business.

You sugarcoat it anyway you like, Saint. It's still nepotism. App is 79-85-26 (.482 percent) during Cobb's 10-year career here. Not exactly a great return on investment.Saint3333 wrote:Hiring a qualified and professional individual and paying them less than market as a stop gap seems to be good business.

Re: Virginia Tech ---
Hiring a relative is not always nepotism. It is only nepotism if one is chosen over another that is more qualified. Unless you have the name(s) and resumes of others that were putting in for this 18k a year job you are speculating.
You guys are acting like she was given a job she wasn't qualified for or paid above market.
78 go fire the field hockey coach, golf coach, etc. if you're concerned about ROI.

It's hard to call hiring a son or wife anything other than nepotism.

The word favoritism pops up when the word nepotism is looked up on dictionary.com.NewApp wrote:Regardless she was hired by her husband. Nepotism is nepotism.Saint3333 wrote:Cobbs wife was paid 18k to be an asst. coach. Really set up the family with that sweetheart deal.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/nepotism?s=t
If she was specifically chosen because she was the wife of the AD, then yeah, nepotism applies. If she was the most qualified person for that position, then nepotism doesn't apply. I'm not well connected, so I don't know one way or the other. I doubt others on here are connected enough to know, but I could be wrong.

The sugarcoating can go both ways, especially for the anti-Cobb group...just saying. I think the political circle calls it "spin".AppGrad78 wrote:You sugarcoat it anyway you like, Saint. Re: Virginia Tech ---
By the way, Lindsay Cobb's job status changed last year when she was promoted from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. Consequently, she makes significantly more than the figure you quoted. Relatives working for relatives at a major public institution is never a good idea.Saint3333 wrote:Hiring a relative is not always nepotism. I can buy that argument better than the previous one you put up.AppGrad78 wrote:By the way, Lindsay Cobb's job status changed last year when she was promoted from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. But, I can't imagine Cobb not going through Peacock to get approval on that hire. I would also imagine Peacock making sure there were no improprieties associated with the hire. To me, no story here.

Great point there are clear policies when hiring state employees, but that doesn't fit the continued anti Cobb narrative these two love to stir up.

Re: Virginia Tech ---
So let's say you're the girls tennis coach at, say, Rockingham County, and your assistant coach is the wife of the athletic director. Who really is in charge of the program? If the assistant coach is doing a poor job, do you really have the ability to make a change? What happens when the head coach and the assistant coach disagree on which lineup to use? What about equipment? Scheduling? Etc... This situation is rife with conflict.kiddbrewer wrote:I can buy that argument better than the previous one you put up.AppGrad78 wrote:By the way, Lindsay Cobb's job status changed last year when she was promoted from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. And, Saint, this has got nothing to do with anti-Cobb sentiment. Nepotism is wrong. It was wrong when Jerry Moore hired his son. It was wrong when Charlie Cobb hired his wife. It'll be wrong if and when Chancellor Everts puts her husband on the books at ASU.
