I’m not naive and pro football is first and foremost a business and there are always questionable roster moves. As far as this guy goes I can’t fathom why any team would take him. No matter how his people spin his “addiction” or his supposed recovery, if he plays every bad pass or fumble will take on an added layer of scrutiny.
Disagree. First, Gambling is a huge issue with young men in today’s society and it should not be downplayed. Second, this has happened before in the NFL with Calvin Ridley and others. If you are talented enough, the NFL will forgive you. I believe Sorsby will fall into that category.
Let me first say that I avoid tit for tat arguments with anyone on these topics. I’m not sure exactly what you disagree with? This guy is a quarterback who will touch the ball way more than most anyone on the field during a game. To think that he’s done gambling is probably a stretch. While I never thought games are fixed it’s way too easy for a quarterback to let his game slip away without being too obvious. If I’m a coach or owner just the notion of my quarterback being involved with a fix is too much.
I disagree with you saying “I can’t fathom why any team would take him”. If he’s deemed talented enough, multiple teams will submit picks to take him.

I also disagree with you placing addiction in quotes and referring to that as a spin by his people, alluding to it not being a true addiction. Gambling is the fastest growing addiction in young men.
I took it as his opinion that he thinks the player is lying. Sorsby could have an actual addiction or it could be spin. None of us know for sure and I could see either way. There are many people who don't believe the agent though.

I'm with you that if he is viewed as talented enough someone will take him but the gambling thing is enough reason that several owners won't care and will say no to bringing him in. I could see someone taking him though. I would not be surprised if up to 6-8 teams put in a bid but I would also not be shocked if just 1-2 or none do. I will find it very interesting to see who makes an offer if he goes undrafted.

NFL has denied Sorsby the Supplemental Draft. This could get interesting because I would not be surprised if he is blackballed completely or if they let the process play out and Sorsby just goes through the draft process and is given a fair chance. I would imagine it comes down to how well he does and if they are satisfied with him after a thorough vetting.

The CFL slamming the door on Sorsby is both funny and pathetic.

Indeed! It appears he is very entitled so I don't think he seriously was thinking about the CFL so that definitely made it funny. The funny thing about the NFL is that they can collude and keep him out because he has never been signed by a NFL team so he does not have protections from the CBA.

I don’t add this comment as a debate or “I told you so” but in this guy’s case it appears pretty clear that despite his talent he’s probably not getting a pro job. Agreed that this happened before to an extent but in Sorsby’s case everyone knows that he bet on his team. With Ridley they found out after the fact. Is he even back in the league?

Ridley was suspended and subsequently reinstated. While both placed bets, the two scenarios are very different in nature which creates what might look like a precedent. The main one being, as stated above, that Ridley was/is covered by the players’s union. Sorsby is not.

It’s not a “told you so” situation. Sorsby will be drafted in the 2027 NFL draft and the NFL will not refuse his entry. The NFL did not like how everything was expedited to join the supplemental draft. A memo was sent out this week detailing this in what is a de facto one year suspension for Sorsby.

I think you are right that he will get drafted but it will be interesting to see where he is picked. There is a chance he goes undrafted but he is a QB and teams will overlook things with them that they might not with others due to supply/demand at the position.

Where did Sorsby slot in the 2027 QB draft projections prior to him sitting out?

The media has been projecting 1st round before this all happened but they tend to just push up the top returning QBs into round 1 by default. Keep in mind he only returned to school because he was given a 3rd round grade before the early entry deadline so he entered the portal since he wanted to get a first round grade. As we all know, QB is a position the NFL will tend to reach heavily on due to supply/demand.

It will be interesting to see what the NFL does with him because the 2027 QB class is suppose to be deep and with him not playing during the fall he could get passed up if those names like Mestemaker, Sayin, Manning, Sellers, Leavitt, Maiava, Chambliss, Moore, Mensah, etc all have a big year. I doubt all of the underclassmen I listed come out early but it shows the potential of the class.

Fair point. The 2027 draft will boast a deep QB class. And the kid has baggage, whether people want to admit it or not. Any NFL GM has to look at Sorsby and think, “sure, the kid has serious upside. But he bet on his own squad in the past, am I willing to play the odds that won’t happen again?”

I would personally not take a chance but I could see a team doing it because he is a QB. I do think owners remember the 1919 baseball scandal and don't want people to worry about that happening in the NFL. The league is a bunch of hypocrites because they let gambling companies sponsor them, IMO.

It was the Browns and we know how dysfunctional they are. They, along with a couple other teams, are why I could see someone giving him a chance. I believe most owners will avoid him but it only takes one team. He got a Senior Bowl invite already and I'm sure they will invite him to the NFL Combine.

I don't know if you guys remember but there was a player from Abilene Christian named Tony Washington who had sex with his sister and he still got an invite to a major bowl game and the NFL Combine. According to his head coach, NFL scouts told him throughout the entire process that he would get a chance but likely just fall a little. Teams got into meetings the final week or so before the draft and owners and GMs told scouts they would not touch him. Washington played 13 years in Arena and Canada. It was believed that he would have gone in the 2nd or 3rd round if he did not have his baggage.

It will be interesting to see if something similar happens with Sorsby or if he is still drafted.

Yeah, you can toss the Jets and Raiders into that group as well. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Sorsby ends up in Vegas?

Press: “Coach, when will we get to see Sorsby in action?”
Coach: “He missed practice again today…we just dispatched some interns to retrieve him from the Sportsbook at Caesar’s."

The Raiders are one team that I don't think can sign him. That would just look way too bad. I will be interested to see how Mendoza does there with Brady to tutor him. His dad is such a know it all that I wonder if he will actually listen to Brady when he gives tidbits. LOL. I am joking a little bit but his dad was a huge pain for Cal and Indiana. He was one of a couple reasons why Fernando's younger brother was pushed out to bring in the TCU QB for this year.

This is interesting. It sounds like some at Cincy knew but who knew and when? Also, Satt is accusing Tech of tampering. Not sure how that can be proven. Wouldn't he need to show proof that Tech was talking with him directly? Everyone, including Cincy, talks to the agents before a player enters the portal.
