If college football breaks from NCAA academics will be meaningless. That's the bad part.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:54 amPer your last point, if we are only talking football, yes. 100%. If we are talking all athletics and academics, a team like Vandy would still be in the SEC for being an elite academic institution and a powerhouse in baseball. Same with Duke and Boston College in the ACC. If they weren’t good academic schools with lots of success in sports besides football, the ACC would’ve dropped them years ago.moonshine wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 8:40 amAs previously mentioned, I believe the media handed out the P5/G5 monikers based off the CFP autonomous voting block of the, then 5, major conferences. P5 truly stands for A5 (autonomous 5) since their votes on football matters outweigh the other 5 conferences.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 10:58 pmI know I've asked this question before- who exactly decided that there are P5 and G5 conferences? It seems like such an arbitrary thing. Other than joining the Big12 how did Cincinnati, Houston and UCF change? In basketball when it comes down to the Big Dance there is ultimately zero difference in UNC and App. As long as we win our conference we dance. Same in baseball, win and we have a chance to win the tournament. For football us little brothers need a perfect season to have a chance. Tulane is probably better than Liberty but no way a 2 loss SMU gets the NY6 over a 13-0 Liberty.
They should always be addressed as the A5 because if conferences were blown up and rebuilt, there’s quite a few A5 programs who wouldn’t make the cut. Look no further than what has happened to the Beavers and Cougars out west.
Does anyone believe Vandy would receive an invite into the SEC a la Texas/OU if they weren’t already apart of that conference? Several teams in the Big10/ACC would also likely be homeless if conferences were rebuilt. Many A5’s are just riding the coattails of the top programs and cashing those checks.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Very true. But that hasn’t happened yet, so until it does, the big wigs calling the shots have to at least pretend to care about book learnin’.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:56 amIf college football breaks from NCAA academics will be meaningless. I don't see how college football alone can break away. Feel like it would require all sports and all conferences to be on the same page. Then different state laws would probably get involved. I think the better option would be to work with the NCAA and Charlie Baker to get something that works for the majority.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 10:59 amVery true. This has been a good entertaining game...it's a shame that so little fans are there to watch.
