This was the best spot for Peterson at the P5 level. If you look at the history of his head coach especially while at Wisconsin. Student body right on first down, student body left on second down...oh darn it, if we have to throw on 3rd down I will but I prefer to run.
Based upon the hype and experience of our OL for last year, this was his philosophy...not much imagination. Well, whether we want to admit it or not, we found out our OL was just okay, not dominate especially against better teams in SBC in this type of scheme.
As such, we cannot just turnaround and just hand off to a running back and hope our OL makes it happen. There has to be some reality or illusion of a read/option to keep defense on their toes. If you go back to bowl game and several regular season games before our short-lived Peterson era, there was the reality and/or illusion of a read option. We may have handed it off 75% of the time but Zac seemed to give the look.
Under direction of their head coach at Illini, their philosophy will be similar to Wisconsin. Peterson will get paid at P5 level for a few years and move on if Illini are not successful.
Although I am glad he is gone as that offense in that strict of implementation may not work for us as we are not getting 315 to 320 pound lineman that can also move somewhat to move the pile consistently especially against P5 teams. Just my opinion.

Players want to go to the team that is winning. NIL may change it a little but I doubt much.
P.S. it is nice to have football back.

That's not entirely true. Many P5s recruit very well despite little to no success on the field.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 10:40 amPlayers want to go to the team that is winning. NIL may change it a little but I doubt much.
