I remember all the jokes made years ago when our team had to spend halftime in a garden shed sitting on bags of fertilizer. Regardless of what any of us thought about Falwell, do we really not want to play an athletic contest because campus activists and the SGA didn't like comments made by their President?asumike83 wrote:I could be wrong but I believe we've faced them in field hockey, wrestling and some of the non-revenue sports.
It's been a good while since we've scheduled them in football, baseball or basketball. I'm not sure of all the details but the SGA passed a resolution not to renew contracts with Liberty after some of Falwell's post-9/11 comments.

Fine. Let us assume that progressive democrats are social conservatives. Not.Gonzo wrote:When you are able to wrap your brain around the concept of an individual having conservative values in some subjects and liberal values in others, maybe you'll believe it. I can't believe you actually condescendingly lectured me on libertarianism when you can't even fathom someone having values of both.GlassOnion wrote:I cannot believe he is attempting to defend that position. This isnt even funny, its downright scary.
What youre arguing, is that no social liberal would vote for a noise ordinance. I guess liberals dont like to sleep?
San Francisco, the most socially liberal city on planet earth, has, wait for it... A noise ordinance.

I have a much bigger problem with the land use ordinance than I do with the noise ordinance. My right to raise hell and party loud stops at the ears of the guy who lives next door and has to be at work at 6 am.

Me too. Building codes are to ensure public safety, not to tell people how many square feet of storage they must have. These issues always come down to whose ox is being gored. Overreach is something both sides engage in...a building ordinance that is overly specific in its requirements or requiring women to get vaginal probes before an abortion...one by liberals the other by conservatives.
We have played Liberty in several non-revenue sports. Our Indoor T&F teams went to Liberty this winter. FH played Liberty twice this past season. In fact, I believe we are in the NORPAC together. Our women's tennis team played in a two day tournament at Liberty back in the Fall. So, obviously we do play them in some sports.
I have been no fan of Liberty because of Jerry Falwell. As the school as grown it has mellowed to some degree. However, it won't wonder far from it origins. Of course, that's perfectly their right, it is a private school. In my 35 years as a classroom teacher, I was always disappointed (though never expressed it) when some of my better students headed to Lynchburg. That said, I have no objection to playing them on the athletic fields. They are a peer institution in that realm.

Onky on the MMB could a thread about Liberty contain the phrase vaginal probe.

It created quite an uproar in Virginia last year and after a lot negative national press, the bill was amended.GlassOnion wrote:What is this vaginal probe you speak of? "requiring women to get vaginal probes before an abortion"
As previously indicated, this is how the issue usually gets started. Thus, it is assumed this requirement is one of mother natures demands.

I certainly didn't intend for this to become a discussion of transvaginal probes. This is different than a simple ultrasound. This would require a more intrusive procedure. It wasn't done for health reasons clearly.

One thing Ive noticed here, is that no matter how good of an argument you make, youre never going to change another person's predetermined mind.

As you probably could have predicted, Jerry, I agree with you 100%. Regardless of my feelings about Falwell (personally, I thought he was a poor example of Christian leadership, as well as intellectually bereft), I don't see how competing against them in athletics is a problem.hapapp wrote:These issues always come down to whose ox is being gored. I'm not going to add anything of substance to this thread, but I want to take the opportunity to type "vaginal probes".
Carry on.

This "vaginal probes" thing has possibilities when considered in the context which Gonzo has provided. Just think, instead of saying that Davidson students are a bunch of pricks, we could just say they are a bunch of vaginal probes.AppinVA wrote:I'm not going to add anything of substance to this thread, but I want to take the opportunity to type "vaginal probes".

Am I the only one who is so immature that the first thing that came to mind when the word 'probe' was introduced to the conversation was this?

... probably so. Hard to believe that episode first aired over 15 years ago.

You must have them confused with UNC-G.

I ALWAYS provide a context for vaginal probing. It's called: my bedroom.Appsolutely wrote:This "vaginal probes" thing has possibilities when considered in the context which Gonzo has provided.
