You're right. Actually that 51-0 shut out is worse than when the Noogas hung 70 on us that time back in the day.

Yes, once upon a time back in the day (30+ years ago). But, not today (last Saturday). By the way, we've more than paid them back over the years.

Nothing except:
1. We were once in the same conference as them. (In fact two or three times)
2. They were a rival back in the day.
3. Have many friends who went there.
4. Had several former employees who were alumni.
5. They are a fellow mountain school.

I'm gonna send out kudos to Sparky Woods at VMI. Recruiting for the Kangaroo Keydets is tough as nails and wins (against FCS teams) are few and far between. Sparky feels a calling to the atmosphere and strict discipline at VMI and this win is well deserved.
LEXINGTON, Va. - The VMI defense forced four turnovers, a season-high, and Al Cobb threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Keydets past the Furman Paladins, 31-15, in Southern Conference football action Saturday at Foster Stadium in Lexington, Va. It was VMI's first SoCon football win since Nov. 16, 2002, and was the first Keydet win over Furman since the 1979 season, breaking a 21-game VMI losing streak to the Paladins.

What we're seeing in the SoCon is a big reason why we had a winning record in 2012 which gave fans the perception Satterfield took a good team and went 4-8 the following year. Had the socon and Montana been their old selves in 2012 everyone would realize how weak we had gotten before Jerry "retired"

You may be right, but I'd bet a dollar to a donut that we wouldn't have gone 4-8.

There's no way to know but there would have been a very good chance we would have went 4-8 if we hadn't lucked into a weak schedule and if Sean Price hadn't bailed us out several times. I posted this a while back:
We were lucky to have a winning season due to two factors that are no longer around: a bunch of weak teams on the schedule (compared to their traditional strength) and Sean Price. We beat Montana by one score at home during their only losing season in 27 years. This absolutely would have been a loss if Montana had been their normal selves. Same with the Furman game... we beat them at home by only 5 points and they were 3-8. Any average Furman team from the 90s or 2000s would have spanked us. Then look at the Samford and GA Southern games. Price bailed us out on both of those games to give us 3 point wins. I'm positive we don't win either of those games without Price's last second miracle TD against Samford or the 231 yards against GSU. We were also embarrassed at home by the Citadel 52-28 .
