Re: 12 team playoff
Bowl games are advertisement for a product, service, or city. They always have been. You really do not need a competitive game you just need to have the seats filled. Wins do not matter when it comes to bowl games. Look at last night's game between Duke and Ole Miss, both teams are 9-3 but the score was 20 to 52. I know there were players not playing in that game that had been playing all season which may have made a difference, but that does not change their regular season record.
A good game is a game in which your team wins regardless of the score or who you are playing.

There are other stories around as well about floundering butt's in seats for bowl games. Even games that were sold out were missing 20% of butt's in seats. As this article mentions, TV money is where its at. Some of these bowl games may start playing in smaller venues because of this. Most teams lose a good chunk of money playing these bowl games. In the age of NIL and Portal movements, how much longer will it be financially viable to go to these bowl games when your star players hit the portal already? Is it worth it when you're already losing money and having to look at paying a new crop of players?
Time will tell. It's all about the money.

Here is a list of many now defunct Bowl Games https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... bowl_games
It was about the money then too.

Re: 12 team playoff
The first round bye looks like a huge mistake that has to be fixed. I know they won't lower it to eight teams so the only fix is sixteen even if we don't necessarily need more teams in.
My ideal and somewhat realistic setup would be the top six conference champions get an auto bid and then ten at large. Top seeds host round one games. I know it gives the G5/6 one more team but also likely means three more for the P4 and they'll host most of not all home games. Seems like something everyone could agree with..

The memories of our first Bowl game highlighted by the team just having a great week together. Of course the comeback win. Still special.

Re: 12 team playoff
The more game they add the more wear and tear on players bodies and the more we see guys sit out. It's a catch 22. We as fans want to see more football and new teams get a chance to win. Most of us also don't like where this new NIL era is at. Some do like it because it appears the the SEC dominance has shifted some with other teams being able to legally pay players. Also players, who may never see the NFL, can make some money now. Regardless if it's 2 teams or 20 teams, someone will gripe they didn't get it. Some games will still have empty seats. The main issue is games being played with players withdrawing due to portal or draft. The NBA tried to fix their problems with star players opting out of games because the fans were mad they bought tickets and the star players weren't there. In order to keep butts in the seats they changed NBA policies. The NCAA, or whatever form this all takes, MUST come up with some type of policy (and enforce it) that players have to play bowl games or playoffs games (outside of injuries). Right now the bowl games and playoffs are meaningless.....

The only meaningless games are the ones in which the score is not kept.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:47 amThe more game they add the more wear and tear on players bodies and the more we see guys sit out. Some would argue that Div III, Div II, FCS, and G5 are meaningless. They are not meaningless if your team is in one of those categories.

Fcs and Div 2 and 3 games aren't meaningless because you don't have players opting out of games. If you do it's minimal. Apples and oranges big guy.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:31 amThe only meaningless games are the ones in which the score is not kept.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:47 amThe more game they add the more wear and tear on players bodies and the more we see guys sit out. Commentator last night during the Duke’s Mayo bowl likened the bowl games to practice for the next season. Coaches getting to see what the players they have left can do.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:59 amFcs and Div 2 and 3 games aren't meaningless because you don't have players opting out of games. For the fans it's a huge let down knowing that your team won't be what it was during the regular season. I guess it is what it is.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:08 amCommentator last night during the Duke’s Mayo bowl likened the bowl games to practice for the next season. Re: 12 team playoff
I was not referring to the playoffs for those divisions, I was referring to the perception of those divisions by some that only believe that the P4 play real Football. Heck, I would really like to see an FBS playoff determined by winning your conference and you are in the playoff. Do that for all conferences and you will level out the talent across the board.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:59 amFcs and Div 2 and 3 games aren't meaningless because you don't have players opting out of games.
