Tough break for the kid. Loved to hate him. Hope he gets a good degree and a successful career in what he chooses. Hope he doesn't have long term issues.

Re: NC State McCall
Got to be hard for the young man. Looked like he could have an outside shot at the NFL. Then a less than stellar season at CCU and now this. Good decision to just be done. Hope he has no long term issues.

Wish him the best. One of our top rivals and recruiting misses. Excellent college qb but I never saw the arm zip required for the League.

Re: NC State McCall
McCall would've been screened out before rookie camp. NFL teams can't afford the high risks involved in signing and suiting up guys with a troubling head/neck medical history. Nor could he afford to take the risks of partial or total paralysis or sudden death. He didn't deserve to be forced out of the game he loves this way. I'd imagine the best neurosurgeons on the east coast were involved in studying his thick portfolio of injury videos, MRIs and Pet scans before "painting" a vivid picture of potential life as a paraplegic for him. He apparently listened to them this time. Wishing him great success off of the turf.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

I am glad he isn’t hurt but I lack an ounce of sympathy after hearing the stuff he and teddy yelled in our stadium

Re: NC State McCall
Just something to think about on this. NC State is believed to have paid McCall 600k and if you are watching the games the current QB is better than McCall has been in 2 years now. Their coaches thought they did but they did not. They have thrown away a lot of money that could have gone to other players or just been saved. They did exactly what Shawn Clark and his staff have been trying to do at the position.
This is another in many examples that NIL and $$ in general does not fix problems. There is plenty of evidence out there to show that he was a huge risk in general. The coaches see these guys in practice but I have heard time and time again how a player surprised a coaching staff when they got the chance. It is hard to know for sure until you see the player in a game situation no matter how much you see them in practice.

Re: NC State McCall
Yeah, McCall should’ve known when to say when. But he can smile all the way to the bank.
And to think Doeren thought McCall was (a) healthy enough to last another season, and (b) worth that kind of NIL money?
Tool.

Re: NC State McCall
McCall was in a tough spot because he was hurt the year he was first eligible to declare and never stayed healthy after that. He did the right thing taking the money. I had told someone over the summer that schools need to be allowed to make players take medical tests when they sign them from portal because I did not think McCall would pass and I'm sure many others would not either.
Clark really needs to make any player he recruits from the portal take a medical exam. I think any coach who is not doing it is going to look really dumb at some point. We kind of already did with the Stanford kid a couple years ago who had to medically retire. I would never sign a portal player without a medical exam.

Re: NC State McCall
I completely agree, it should be a no-brainer that full physicals/exams are required. What healthy player is going to say no? Definitely would help sift the wheat from the chaff in the TP.

McCall is on the Coastal sideline….
no longer NC State qb I guess. Embarrassing for Wolfpack fans especially the donor that gave him NIL money to be a Wolfpack.

Re: NC State McCall
I'm not sure being on a former school's sideline means hea dropped out of NC State. He may have though. He's proven through his attempt to transfer to Auburn that he probably isn't the most studious cat.

To drop out one must attend class.
