Wisconsin could lose 100 mil

If theres no football I'd bet a lot of programs are done. And maybe thats for the better. Maybe a more sustainable system can grow out of this.
I wonder if numbers are public on what App would lose? Any of you insiders have a line on that?

ACC head coach told me that their athletic program would “survive” , but many college programs would not. Emphasis on “ survive” because they were “ in much better shape than most”.

Re: Wisconsin could lose 100 mil
Schools like App certainly don’t really make crap from a bowl game and probably net lose money- I certainly want us to go and play but..
We lose out on a big Wisconsin pay day. How much do we net on a game like that considering flight, meals and hotel expenses? Still a good net I would think.
What other conference road games do we have this season requiring flight, food and hotel costs?
How much do we typically net per home game with, say 25,000 in attendance? I hope we have some reserves. No way it’s in the $25m range.

A re-set would probably be a good thing for the future. The system is presently out of control. The money has gotten stupid.

I'd say App is far from safe here. As crazy as it seems this could spell absolute disaster for the program and school overall.appdaze wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:56 pmhttps://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... n-canceled

Re: Wisconsin could lose 100 mil
I read yesterday that the UNC system is requesting all schools to put together a plan for cutting 25% and 50% from their budgets, as a precautionary measure. The 50% cut would likely be catastrophic to both academic and athletic programs. It sounded like the 25% cut, while still massive, would allow most of the schools programs to survive with cuts. Hopefully we will get through this in the long term relatively unscathed.
Give 'em hell!

“Likely catastrophic”. Hmmm yeah. Very likely , as in unrecognizable.

There is nothing “ crazy” about it my friend. People don’t understand what is really at stake.MountaineerMafia wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 10:05 amI'd say App is far from safe here. Re: Wisconsin could lose 100 mil
'Crazy' in the sense that the team has been great recently (ranked in the last 2 seasons) and expanding the stadium/replacing turf, and it could all be for not. I understand the seriousness of it, but yes, crazy to think that App could go from where they are now to not being able to field a team...Stonewall wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 6:14 pmThere is nothing “ crazy” about it my friend. Re: Wisconsin could lose 100 mil
I’m breaking my self imposed pause from this board this summer to say Appalachian athletics is not safe from further losses of programs and taking steps back which will linger for years for all programs.
This virus will only deepen the divide from the haves from the have nots in everyday society, the divide may be even deeper in college athletics and Appalachian is not one of the haves.
This football season will be critical for all of our programs.
