And to you unc fans on here, all this dragging out of time must be put on the shoulders of unc as well as the ncaa - unc has taken its sweet ol time in responding on several earlier occasions - one reason I believe is that they didn't want to take a chance of not winning the 2016 national basketball championship - Which, thanks to Villanova (sorry Black Saturday) they DID NOT.
As someone mentioned earlier, if the holes had just admitted to wrong doing and took the initial punishment this would have been over long ago - But, THE CAROLINA WAY, and their egotistical attitude prevented that - AND, look where they are now !!! - Roy will be crying again, recruits will decide to go elsewhere (he has been telling them unc bb is clear of penalty) and Fedora will take the next decent job he is offered ---
I disagree about recruits. They'll still get who they want as usual. I don't see that the scandal before affected their recruiting.

It has already affected them - they lost Brandon Ingram to Duke because of it - there have been others --- however, Roy had convinced current freshmen and recruits that basketball was free and clear - not now ---

So do you believe there should not be any nCAA eligibility requirements involving academics? No minimum requirements for incoming players, no minimum GPA for current players, and no rules against giving academic help to athletes?
No, you for sure misunderstand me. My attitude is that if you want to play a sport in college you should have to be able to get in as any other student, same gpa, same sat, same everything. I think the NCAA gives lip service to academics. Athletics is what makes their money and you ALWAYS follow the money.

I think an athlete's academic qualifications should be higher than the average college student due to the hours of practice, travel, time away from classes, etc. It would seem that it would take an especially exceptional student to be able to keep up their grades while doing all that. I know I couldn't have.

JT: I for one think all that you mention should be in place and there should be a way monitor all this. The NCAA will not do it because there is a conflict of interest - academic integrity vs the money. Academics could cause star athletes to miss a conference or national playoff, or a basketball tournament. Loss of stars = loss of viewership on TV = loss of revenue = loss of money to the NCAA. SMU got the death penalty in football years ago. Does anyone here really believe that they would do the same to Clemson or Alabama if the same thing happened in the next 5 years?

A regulatory organization like the NCAA, that would put a school on probation because they gave out bagels and cream cheese to recruits but not for blatant academic fraud is a whole bunch of shysters.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I'll believe sanctions on UNC-CH when I see it. NCAA investigators might all die of old age before this actually results in anything. And the Duke kid got suspended and luckily didn't hurt anyone but himself.
