Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
I was hoping that the Jags would take a chance on Cummings, but that seems unlikely given their TE draft selection in the 2nd round. Liam Cohen was actually one of the people who encouraged Dowell to take a chance on him in the portal. I believe that relationship helped Joey land in JAX.

The previous staff would have likely had more players at the next level if they encouraged NFL relationships instead of bashing the players to scouts. Mic drop.

What do you classify as bashing? And which players are you referring to? Peoples? I heard things that were said and they told the truth it sounded like. He got signed and cut because of his play and did not even make it in Canada.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 11:14 amThe previous staff would have likely had more players at the next level if they encouraged NFL relationships instead of bashing the players to scouts. Some coaching staffs hype every player, which does not help because NFL teams won't take what the coaches say seriously. Then there are staffs that don't talk at all and that does not help either. I feel like being honest with teams is important because you want them to trust you for when you do pound the table for one of your players.

Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
So have we had any App State players signed as UDFA’s?
If not, when is the last time that happened?

Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
It has not happened that I can remember. The pro day was really bad for our guys. Cummings was going to get picked in round 7 or be a UDFA signing for sure but the injury derailed that for now.
I thought we might get 1 signing and a few tryouts. Dubinion, Favors, Johnson, and Stroman are the ones I thought could get invited to mini-camps. Maybe Larkins but I figured that would be a team local to him if they want a tight end body that does not cost anything to bring in. Believe it or not that happens a lot in the NFL. Just about every team signs players from their local pro day solely as a cost saving move for a body.

A sign of how our recruiting fell off the last 5 years.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 1:46 pmIt has not happened that I can remember. The pro day was really bad for our guys. Cummings was going to get picked in round 7 or be a UDFA signing for sure but the injury derailed that for now.

Indeed. Even if you look at the draft results of the players we lost those groups are still not as good as many classes prior to 2020.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 2:24 pmA sign of how our recruiting fell off the last 5 years.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 1:46 pmIt has not happened that I can remember. Really wish we had made up that High Point away game now.
Why don’t we play mid weeks thru the end of the year like most teams?

Joey had a hell of a career.
Not bad for a guy that almost quit to be a firefighter.
Wishing him the best!

Was Castle not? He was in one of my grad classes, but could have been doing the simultaneous grad/undergrad thing.

You are correct, apologies to Castle and congrats to him for that. I thought he left early.

Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
If someone has a chance could you remind me of our "current" NFL players-
D'Marco resigned with the Bears?
Where did ADG end up?
Nate Hampton?

Correct on D’Marco. I think he has a shot at being a starter this year.
ADG was a starter for cardinals but was signed by colts this offseason. Should be a rotational piece at least.
Hampton was signed by panthers and will be a fringe roster player.
Ryan Neuzil is a starter for falcons. Sam Martin is a starter for panthers.

Neuzil had such a good senior year. It shocked me that no major all-star game wanted him. If he can stay healthy, he should play a few more years.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2026 1:06 pmCorrect on D’Marco. I think he has a shot at being a starter this year.

Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
Wow it’s great to see the names of the current players who played for us and the ones listed above were (I believe) recruited and stayed at least 4 years. Kind of sad to think back to the number of FCS era guys who made it and how much pride we had when their names got chosen. Unless something drastic happens it’s entirely possible that those days are gone. It will be hard to really get excited when a guy gets drafted and he played at App for one year then bolted to a P4. Will there even be any player drafted who went from a P4 to a G5?

Re: Apps In The Pros Mega Thread
The only case I see this happening now is if we have a player who is mediocre their entire time here and then happens to catch lightning in a bottle their last year of eligibility.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2026 6:19 amWow it’s great to see the names of the current players who played for us and the ones listed above were (I believe) recruited and stayed at least 4 years. In your second scenario for a P4 to G5, I think the same would be true as they would bolt back to P4 if they prove themselves unless NCAA somehow actually enforces that new proposed rule where they have to sit out a year after their first penalty-free transfer.
