Hennigan cut by Vikings

Thomas Hennigan decided in December that when he got released he would go into the work force. He has a good job working for some equipment company. He made good "start your life" money in Minnesota and was likely not going to make the team unless he got hurt. He is going to be just fine but his football career is over.

I'll never forget that sideline one-handed catch against Wake Forest his freshman year...

It's too bad that many people look at guys who were good/great in college and diminish their accomplishments based on whether they made it in the pros. It's nice to just consider the college accomplishments- AE for example. Even though he gets a bad rap Tebow was fun for college football. Henni was a great Mountaineer and I enjoyed watching him play. We assume that all of these guys want to play forever. Sometimes they are actually human and simply want to move on.

This list is long, but T-Henni is one of my all time favorite Mountaineers.

One of my favorites too. He made lots of big catches in his career at App and I wish him all the best in his future.

Depends on the reason for it. Hennigan is one of the best we ever had, regardless of playing in the NFL or not. He could keep trying but does not need to.

When you bring up AE I think you are referring to the debate between him and Dexter but you have to remember that Dexter was so good he overcame being a 5'10 215 LB to play a decade in the NFL. There were none like him hardly in the league. Players like Dex, Zach Thomas, and Nguyen were the exception and not anywhere near a normal thing like an undersized LB today. Armanti would have gotten a better shot at QB today but just could not be the exception like Brees and Coakley were at their positions. He had a really good CFL career though.

I guess we'll never know if he could have been another Cooper Kupp??? - I did think he had a chance to catch on with someone as a possession receiver

Does he have a connection there? He was a Guilford kid and Oak Grave isn't even 10 years old yet. A lot of good football comes out of that area though. Ledford, North Davidson, Thomasville, and all those private schools.

I tell my high school students all the time when they start talking down about playing D2 vs. D1- Less than 7% of high school football players play college ball. Roughly 1.2% of that 7% go on to play in the NFL. So when a player like Hennigan only gets a cup of coffee in the pros, he's still literally one of less than 1% of football players who made it that far. Henni may never have played a professional down of football, but he's still better than just about anyone you personally know at playing football.

You all remember his performance at the end of the regular season his freshman year against Louisiana? Cold day, ball was hard but his hands were soft.

Doubt he made that much. I'm sure there was an IR clause in his contract. But, he still made good money for the first year out of school.

I was just about to post he made around 435k and say that his very wording to my friend was that he knew he would not make it but wanted to use the money to start his life off with. After taxes and all he probably has a little less than 250k in the bank from it but that is still a great start to life.
