Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
So instead of going back-and-forth with you guys, I’m just gonna pose a question. Since they don’t play up there until mid March, what is the answer then? If you don’t want them playing at Hickory, what do you do? Weather is so unpredictable up on the mountain, they don’t have many choices. Can’t ha...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
So I’m gonna try not to be a smart ass here. But yes, I am a former Division I baseball player myself and a little bit or two about the program. So that’s my two cents worth thanks for your perspective, buddy Yeah, but my recollection is that you played elsewhere, right (If I am mistaken, my apolog...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
So you say 7° difference. But will Travel to away games and make it a 10 to 12 hour day in North Carolina instead of playing in Hickory? Doesn’t make sense to me. You do understand that you are arguing with a guy (311neers) that actually played baseball for App under Pollard, right? I'd say his per...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
The games in Hickory are poorly attended and that's a weak minor league park. Needs serious improvements and renovations if we're calling that home. By playing in Hickory, you turn what is usually a 7-8 hour day into a 10 hour day. No player wants that for 7 degrees difference. So you say 7° differ...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I think we should move them there Play games there most of the time. Hickory has the ability to get on board to support baseball with 4000 people. Boone does not. I guess, the games then aren't for the students to attend. I doubt we would be able to play rent free in Hickory. I'm three hours away, ...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Hard no to Hickory. If we can go to Southern Illinois in early March we can play in Boone. Attendance has been great in Boone so far. Losing 3 in a row didn't help. That was a late add to the schedule because of A cancellation so they had no choice but to go there. Other than the coastal game, what...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Quite a bit actually. Because most Northern teams as we just talked about in the last thread travel for the first month of the season to warmer Weather for first month. There’s a reason why APP does not play up there, but they certainly practice indoors.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
When in Greenville last spring, I heard that Michigan (State) uses Fluor Field for “spring training”. Can anyone confirm? They played in Charleston, Florida and Greenville from February 16 to March 16. Their first home game was the 3/18. In Greenville, the last series before going back home. Now th...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I am going to be a broken record on this. We need to make Hickory the home of our baseball program....and maybe softball and Golf. They can still play games in Boone but headquartered out of Hickory. Great idea - still cold I get it. I love App and the mountain. Love everything about the University...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
When your pitcher breathes into his hand to warm it up between pitches, that’s not good… but wait, that was happening at JMU. Yeah but wait...that happens less frequently than at APP and Marshall  good try That's not on top of the fact that they play the first month on the road. There's a reas...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I feel like Coach Smith is a good coach. Pitching is an area that I am sure he is focused. Getting good pitching, in the nil era, probably means paying up...so we need an nil sponsor to step up. Will we have some develop, sure...but, probably need transfers (several of them) year in and year out. H...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I’ve tried not to post so much on baseball because from my point of view this is what the program is. I don’t want this to be a slight on any of the coaches whatsoever. I think KS is the perfect fit. APP Is never going to get the necessary arms to compete consistently year in and year out. They are ...

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Hey - many of us have taught high school kids (and younger) to bunt - that should not be a problem with college players --- Unfortunately that's not today game. Load - Drop - Hit upwards. Give me guys that can get on base via walks or other means. Players from HS to pros strike out way too much IMO.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Wow explosion! Keep rolling boys. We round some pitching and we could be dangerous That seems to be the wild card for the past 2 years. We need Brooks back soon, which will help immensely out of the pen. I don’t know if Xeureb will be able to go but the bats look good anyway. No clue what happened ...
