Some guys just want to transfer. In order to do that and continue to compete they must enter the portal. Non-athletes transfer every semester, no portal requirement for them though.

We don't spend the money and time on the non-athletes that we do on the athletes.

However, I give four other ACC programs; Wake, Miami, UNCCH, and NCSU more credit than Clemson. Those programs were willing to come to Boone. "Were" being the operative word there, but...
