Re: Eastern NC BBQ
I tend to refrain from these discussions, but for Eastern, Wilbur's in Goldsboro is damn fine BBQ and fixins. Here in the Hickory area, Western is a toss up between JD's in Rutherford College and Apple City in Taylorsville.

I am having a hard time adjusting to the new reality of college sports, but I feel just a little better after watching that. Thanks biggie!

Re: Red Bridges BBQ
It has been a couple years since I have dined there and I need to get back down that way. Note to any newbies that might order their sweet tea, it is sweet. I recommend a mix of sweet and unsweetened. My preferred ratio is 50/50. Everything else they have served me has been to my liking.

Re: Lenoir Rhyne AD
For the past 6 years I have resided beside their campus. What they have accomplished since then is indeed impressive. I have long suspected they took their ques from the late great Dr. Kenneth E. Peacock. There was a rumor years ago they extorted us on a payday, after which then AD Charlie Cobb chan...

I lived in Huey Dorm sophomore and junior years. Talk about great being a stumble away from a fun club. Greatest idea to bring in your own six pack, check it in and then given a punch card. Lots of fun at Happy’s- I forgot the name! I saw the Indigo Girls there, and others. The IGs are the only act...

Re: The Platters
Best concert I ever saw in Varsity Gym was the legendary Bob Dylan. Interesting. I saw his performance at Varsity circa 1993ish and it was the biggest disappointment of any concert I have ever attended. Perhaps it was just poor venue acoustics, but I would have sworn he was way too intoxicated to b...

I think there could be a nastier, a more spoiled, a more I measure my success in life by my alma mater's weekly and seasonal success on the gridiron. So we have that going for us.

I am as disgusted as anyone else, but we are going to have to give him some time. I am convinced he has the heart to learn and perform his job at a higher level.

I pay it no attention, but those results, if accurate , are better than I would have expected. According to your data, we finished 12th of 14 in the SB Tourney. We either had a bad showing in that tournament, or played against some weak or otherwise limited competition in the events where we posted ...

Re: End of a good run, My Last Newspaper
In Hickory the local papers were acquired by larger publishing companies and became irrelevant as these larger interests cared not for local news, Their only concern was local ad revenue. I have no mercy for them but I find it a shame.

Re: App football radio top in NC
Other schools have more games on TV as well so they don't need to listen to the radio. That was my first thought. I remember listening to the Auburn game back in the days when the only two choices were be there, or listen on the radio. I also remember the season when the SoCon partnered with a few ...

Re: ETSU fires Coach
I know people don't like to hear it but I will continue to beat this drum...APPSTATE sports should embrace HIckory for our weekday games. Basketball included. If we can't sell more tickets and get support for our team in Boone we should explore the Hickory connection. I think it would be very smart...
