That is some pie-in-the-sky dreaming from UNCC. Based on what I have seen, those 2500 student seats will be empty regardless. No one cares about 49er football, especially when they are a doormat.manonabuffalo wrote:KBS expansion, attendance is down a bit? I guess it could be worse....

We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
I understand what you are saying, and I'm not trying to pick a fight when I say this - but if we can't afford to do it right, right now, why are we doing it at all? Let's put the money where it can be used now, and save the rest for later. A 1/2 dorm, 1/2 club space isn't going to work. Security would be a nightmare, egress/ingress for students and patrons alike would be a mess, some athletes who are housed in the dorm might not like being that close to the football field on gameday (believe it or not). I'm also not sure that there is space in that area to do is being proposed.Boone Goon wrote:Personally I don't like the student housing idea, but it's a way to get state funding to help with the overall expansion efforts.
Look at it this way - I want a pair of shell cordovan Alden bluchers. They are $750. I could buy something right away that looks similar and costs much less, but I would never be fully happy with them. In 2-3 years, I'll bite the bullet and buy the Aldens that I originally wanted. Then I'll be out $1100+. ASU will end up tearing down the dorm, or spending tons of money on retrofitting it in 5-10 years, when we could have just waited a few years and gotten the space that we want and need.
Give 'em hell!

Oops
"Current students seem to be disinterested, the stadium is nearly half empty and the atmosphere of game day is similar to that of a high-level high school."

"There are multiple reasons why the atmosphere is like this: due to Charlotte playing FCS teams for their first two years, the opponents are usually not enticing to watch."
Whatever you have to tell yourself, bud. Appalachian frequently topped 30,000 in a relatively remote town, with a similar schedule for a decade.
"This results in the 49ers blowing out the opponent or vice versa."
What? So playing "lowly" FCS opponents yields blowout losses also? Naturally.

“If people started to pay attention to their school’s sports and not their favorite ACC School, then we could maybe compete with the ACC one day”
Ouch

That was a very comical list of excuses. Maybe one day they'll face facts: that a glorified community college with no soul, that offers no college experience, has no change of ever getting many of their students or alums emotionally invested in their football team.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
Simple supply and demand - forget talking about expansion as long as we have thousands of empty seats for every home game.
Agree with those who say a full(er) stadium is better for recruiting. A half-empty stadium - regardless of size - is a big negative for many recruits.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
If I'm not mistaken, the ticket sales for Georgia State was a near sell out but the weather deterred people from coming. As stated earlier, Boone being essentially "out in the country" compared to other schools is a shame. We have a passionate fan base that is either in Boone or 2+ hours away compared to a Raleigh, Chapel Hill, or Greenville.
The expansion doesn't need to happen until we start consistently making bowl appearances, contending for conference titles, etc. As T-Dog said, managing the hill is probably first priority, followed by maybe a stronger audio/video system to add some in-between action entertainment (not my own view personally, but have heard it expressed time and again).
As for the issue of student tailgate participation being discouraged, I couldn't agree more. At the bigger schools, there's almost an amnesty for students to drink (underage or otherwise) on game days as long as they conduct themselves maturely. Boone is much stricter on game day drink with police presence and regulations. Not saying we should completely emulate their structure, merely take some stuff out of their book.

I feel like you are exactly right. Keep winning games and they will come. In fact, I think we would have had a lot better attendance this year but for the first time in several years we had several Saturdays with poor weather. Hate to think that some of our fans are fair weather fans but the fact remains no one wants to drive up the mountain to set in the rain for three hours.vegattk wrote:No seat expansion until we can put butts in them...

Keep winning and a little better weather and we will be selling out.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
This debate is being carried out across the nation for all sports venues. Attendance is down overall due to numerous reasons. NFL, Nascar, NHL, all sports are struggling to get the fan in the seat. Most likely due to TV. While we should make it as nice as possible in the mean time, expansion should be held off until 1) this debt is at least close to being satisfied, 2)need for additional seats. When the hill is crowded again, then lets build.
I am all for having a plan in place, even use that for fundraising, but no shovel to dirt.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
I agree with the argument that we need to be filling up the stadium before we start expanding it, but the plan needs to be detailed and ready when that time comes. You can't start planning when you're selling out.....planning takes years on commercial projects like that. You need a solid plan and funding ready and pull the trigger when the time is right......when we are packing the Rock again.
The atmosphere is certainly more fun when it's shoulder to shoulder and loud as hell. I hate looking at aluminum during the games.....black and gold looks much better.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
This is a long building project. We're on track, with our coaches and players, to be very good in the coming years. It's going to take a year or two to physically upgrade the stadium. We have an ACC home game in two years as well.
Waiting to see if/when we start getting 30,000+ again would be more prudent if we could snap our fingers to instantly upgrade the stadium. Building the program to a big winner is on the same time frame as literally building stadium additions.
Break ground ASAP, IMO.

Yet another vote for track removal and adding what would be a few thousand seat in front of what we already have on the sidelines.

Re: What is your opinion on KBS expansion?
Montana's stadium is enviable for one reason. Noise level.
The Griz have one of the loudest stadiums in all of NCAA, despite being relatively small. This is accomplished in two ways.
1) Their stands come right up to the field
2.) Their field is -below- ground level. This creates a bowl effect which amplifies noise levels *drastically*
Our field should be dug out, lowered fifteen to twenty feet, and the stands extended over the current track, right up next to the sideline.

If I won I'd cut the school a check for 10 mil AT LEAST for construction to what would then be called Gonzo Stadium.

I completely agree, not sure where the funding will come from but I'm sure we will start phases. Especially since wake is coming to town.Gonzo wrote:This is a long building project. There's something like 50 million set aside for a future stadium project in 2018 according to UNC budget reports. Hopefully it looks very little like the picture that's been floated around.
