In other words, he never graduated and none of the places he coached at until now (Tulane, Manhatten (twice) and Louisville) either checked or cared.

Manhatten has placed him on leave pending a review becuase their coaching position requires an actual degree.

Interesting development.

Yes; it has been previously posted. And smirked at by a few of us who've made a living recruiting and doing thorough background checks on prospective employees.

This sounds similar to the hoops coach at NC State a while back who coached the Wolf Pack with purportedly no undergraduate degree.

Rhoades is at Rice..........
You're kidding. I made that comment a good week ago.

I have had enough of Charlie Cobb ... He let Buzz hold him hostage 5 years ago ... He made the worst hire in the history of college basketball 4 years ago ... He fired a living legend who did nothing but win and represent Appalachian with class and dignity last year ... and now he can't close the deal on another potential coach ... I believe its time that we got new leadership at the top ... our 3 major sports are all losers this year and in my opinion Cobb is in charge and he cannot handle the job ... Everything he has including his office was built by Coach Moore and the football team ... I am sick and tired of having to take up for App athletics when everyone wants to know what kind of idiot is running the sports program when they speak about Coach Moore firing and Capel hiring ... It's time that we got someone who has a clue into the leadership position .... Cobb needs to go !!!!

You, Sir, haven't a clue what you are talking about. Besides laking any facts to back up your points, please carry on as this is an opinion board. Nice 2nd post

Now with Lutz out of the picture, Cobb should go hard after the NCCU coach!

What are his credentials, name and just how long has he been at Central?. Just curious. Is he the head coach or an assistant?

You are, "barking up the wrong tree." Head on over to Appfan.com and find a damp, dark corner to sit in.

I've heard Ritchie McKay the ass. head coach at Virginia come up. He's is one of the top paid assistants in the nation making around $300,000 this year. He left Liberty while things were going well to be the assistant at Virginia. I don't see any reason why he would come to App. He has an odd coaching resume too. He's a journeyman head coach and he's had success at some schools and failure at others.

Levelle Moton at NCCU is a name some of the fans have been talking about. I'm sure he would do a great job. We would be able to offer him a nice raise over NCCU. The sports writers in Durham right now think he's way to happy coaching his alma mater and setting all kind of NCCU and MEAC records to leave unless it is a REALLY good situation and App State isn't that.

2 names that fans have been throwing out that seem to really be in the mix are Duggar Baucom at VMI and Derrick Clark at Metro State.

Duggar Baucom has done an incredible job at VMI considering the difficultly in recruiting to a military school and lack of budget (they don't even have a strength and conditioning coach). He sports one of the fastest offenses in the country and his teams are super fun to watch. He doesn't do a lot of interviews but has come out and said that he thinks his associate head coach is ready for a head coaching job so it seems he's ready for a change and we could offer him a nice raise.

There have been a few other D2 coaches talked about by fan other than Derrick Clark like the coach at Florida Southern and SC Aiken. Metro and Aiken both made the D2 Final 4. Most schools don't consider really consider D2 coaches for coaching jobs but many of Charlie Cobb's best hires have been D2 coaches particularly Darcie. She scares the crap out of me but is on track to be the best basketball coach in school history.

Levelle Moton has/will interviewwith Marshall & FAU, so looks like he's trying to move on from Central.

Would be a fine hire imo.

Baucom,Clark,Darner names that keep getting thrown around.

Darner's resume stands alone:

(7) 20 plus win seasons
(7) consecutive NCAA tournament appearances
(12) consecutive seasons averaging over 80 points a game
5 SSC regular season championships
5 SSC conference tournament championships

Ranked highest winning percentage of all Florida schools(since 07-08 has won 78%) of all his games GATORS are next with 74%.

Rebuilt two struggling programs on the court and in the classroom.

Ties to Boone!

Recruiting ties to South and Midwest. Played D1 college basketball at Purdue with Cuonzo Martin, Matt Painter and played and coached with Bruce Weber.
