Summary since 2016:

2016 vs #9 Tennessee: L 20-13 OT UTk fumbled ball into the endzone to lose, a fumble can be advanced on 3rd down - learned a new rule that day
2017 vs #15 Georgia: L 31-10, just outmatched like most teams vs. UGA since then
2017 vs Wake Forest: L 20-19 missed 39 yard FG to lose
2018 vs # 10 Penn State: L 45-38 OT - If Jalen takes a knee after breaking a tackle on the 10 we kick a FG to win in regulation, still love you Jalen heck of a run
2019 vs North Carolina: W 34-31
2019 vs South Carolina: W 20-15
2021 vs #22 Miami: L 25-23 - early INT on our 6 yard line, then bad snap on a punt for a 26 yard safety, outplayed them the last 50 minutes
2022 vs North Carolina: L 63-61 - craziest 4th quarter in the history of CFB with 62 points scored in the 4th quarter
2022 vs #6 Texas A&M: W 17-14
2023 vs North Carolina: L 40-34 OT - held a 1st round QB to 200 yards, couldn't stop the run, offense played very well

We compare better to Clemson than we did to Michigan in 07. With that said, we have also been just 2-10 against P5 since 2014. A couple of really close ones that went to last-minute plays or OT, but also some blowouts. An L is an L though. I think this game could go either way at this point and a lot of that is going to depend of the Clemson lockerroom morale with all that pressure surrounding their 3 year slide. Our guys will be ready and the biggest factor on our side will be how strong we come out of the gate. Slow start means a loss and possibly a blow out.
2-10 huh?

App is 3-3 since 2019. With two, two point losses and a loss in 2OT.
Which games are you counting. I may have missed one.
UNC and South Carolina along with Texas A & M
!! I missed the SC game when I counted. Good catch. So 3-10 since FBS and 3-3 since Drink.

Great recap, one minor thing, the 2023 UNC loss was in double OT.

That is a good recap, but an L is an L. We have plenty of wins over the years where we were the ones with the great last second play that could have been an L otherwise. So we can parse those losses all we want but an L is an L. If we want to play that game then Michigan was one unblocked field goal away from changing our programs trajectory for years.

When discussing point spreads, the manner in which App tends to play these games matters. Two of the three games App has lost by more than one score have come to teams that made it to the National Championship: the other was a 10-2 Miami team in App’s first time hosting an ACC team.

So yes, when you talk about a 17 point spread, the trends tend to point to taking a mortgage out on an App cover.

Last year we barely lost to UNC who then went 8-5. As far as 2022 and back, how many of our current players were starters against those opponents? So when they look at point spreads for this year, they mostly go by last year where we lost to that UNC team as our lone P5 game. Last year Clemson went 9-4 with a win over the UNC team we lost to. They ended the season on 5 straight wins including the Gator bowl over an overrated Kentucky team. They had the 15th-best recruiting class for this year and are still living on the hype of the championships, regardless of their recent slide. So I can see why they would have a big point spread.

Slow going the back way from Greenville to Clemson, just a heads up. Those brakes are screaming.

To me, the Miami and Wake Forest losses hurt the most because App was actually the better team those games. The other losses App played above their heads to an opponent that overlooked them. Miami and WF we’re fully prepared and got lucky because App made mistakes.

We should have beaten Wake. Miami, I don’t think so.

I think they were referring to our game against Miami in 2021 not 2016.
