Bowl selection order

Unread post by weavneerfan » Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:19 am

Does anyone know the order that bowl committees will select teams? In pregame yesterday Doug Gillen said New Orleans picks first and Arizona last. I can't remember the middle three.
Never too early to think about holiday and travel plans.

Believe the pecking order is the following:
NOLA
Dollar General in Mobile
Camellia in Montgomery
Cure in Orlando
Arizona

Regardless of PICKING ORDER, I believe our conference and the bowl folks work together to maximize attendance for each bowl, Arizona Bowl--not so much.

And we already have 5 bowl eligible teams with the potential to reach 7. Coastal can get there, especially since South Alabama is on their schedule (also plays the Stink), and so can Louisiana, who also happens to play South Alabama this week (and ULM). If 7 teams get eligible, we'll be able to put teams in other bowls or 2 teams stay home. I hope the league can fill other bowls.

If App wins the SBC I think we go back to Mobile. If we don’t we backfill a non SBC bowl.

Troy Champs:
NOLA - Troy
DG - ULL (west champ)
Camellia - Ark St.
Cure - GS
Zona - ULM
Birmingham Bowl - App

App Champs:
NOLA - ULL
DG - App
Birmingham - Troy
All others the same

Based on past patterns, Louisiana will go to NOLA if they are eligible. Maybe Troy would beat them out based on how well their fans travel but I guess you'll never know.

I understand that the bowls want to maximize attendance but I think we should have a system that rewards performance. This is one of the few areas there CUSA seems to have a right in that the champion gets to choose which bowl they attend. Seems to me that the schools would want to choose the game their fans could attend, so this "reward" shouldn't be drastically out of synch with maximizing the bowl attendance.

Don’t see any way all the SBC bowls pass on us. I think NOLA takes ULL but if not they’ll slide - Mobile won’t care one bit who the West division champs are.

Now I could see us potentially slipping to Orlando if we don’t win the conference. Which I suspect most App fans would be fine with.

I don't think that they will all pass on us with all things being equal. But it will all depend on how much ESPN gets involved. If it looks like App is going to go to the Cure Bowl, it is possible that ESPN blocks that to get them on the network.

I just want us to win the conference and don’t care which bowl we go to.
