Most of the sites who have already updated their picks after this past weekend, have us going to the Cure Bowl against either UCF or Tulsa

What would happen if ULL becomes eligible and there are 6 eligible teams with only 5 tie ins?

Somebody would fill an at-large spot where another conference didn't have enough teams to fill out its lower-tier bowls.

My guess is that somebody would either be USA (if NOLA invites ULL) or ULL (if NOLA doesn't invite them). Just speculation, though.

Officially, Dec. 4. I believe at least the destination leaked beforehand last year.

Pretty sure that waiver puts them on a level plane with teams who earned it on the field. I don't believe it is the same as the waiver for 5-7 teams.
According to South Alabama, they cannot be selected before those who earned it on the field but before any 5-7 teams.

Doug Gillin was a guest on Saturday's pre-game show on the AppIMG Radio Network. Responding to a question about the bowl situation, he said that he'd had a conversation on Friday evening with persons who should be "in the know" and that there seemed to be an outside chance for Mobile, but that a return to Montgomery was looking more and more likely.

Not what I wanted to hear, but as he concluded, "at least we're in the bowl conversation. A lot of good football teams would trade places with us in an instant. They aren't under consideration."

I would say there can't be "a lot of good teams" who won't be bowl eligible :o

Yeah, I believe 66 might have been paraphrasing there.

For those who might care Jason Isbell is going to be in Montgomery Dec 15th at the performing arts center right across the road from the Embassy Suites. One selfish reason I hope we end up there again.

Honestly despite the fact that the Cure Bowl is on a crappy network with crappy coverage, I would prefer that game over the others. First of for full disclosure, it is only a two hour drive for me. But from a team standpoint, it would be a better, in perception only perhaps, better opponent from a better, in perception perhaps, conference. Plus Florida is a strong hold for recruits. Either way, debating on which bowl to go to is a good problem to have.

Yeah, I probably should have omitted the quotation marks in that post. But then again, realistically, there may be a dozen or so teams from P5 conferences who won't "go bowling" this season that might, arguably, give us fits on a neutral field because of their size and speed. Just sayin'... :geek:

Alabama's not too bad of a place to recruit either.

Very true. Florida is a strong hold though and we don't play any games on a year in year out basis there. We have two conference brethren already in the state of Alabama so we have a presence there.

Really hope we get the cure. Playing someone from the AAC would be way more exciting than another match up with Ohio.

I'm not overly excited about a home game for UCF against us. Tulsa yes. UCF=my vote for Camelia.

UCF is also likely to be 6-6. Not sure why everyone seems to find them or Tulsa to be so much more glamorous than MAC teams, but to each his own.

One draw of the Cure for me would be getting to play in the Citrus Bowl. I read last year that they'd renovated it, and it sounded pretty nice. Would be a step up from the Cramton Bowl I imagine.

Last year I was all over my hotel reservations in all 3 cities for the Dec 17 games, this year work got in my way. While I now ave rooms booked in New Orleans and Orlando, the only thing left in Montgomery is the Renaissance at a "special event rate" that has a no cancellation policy . . . $300+ on a room not used should we end up in Orlando is a bit steep. I wonder what the likelihood of catching lightning in a bottle and snagging a room cancellation from a MAC fan once the bids are announced? We were in the Hampton Inn Montgomery last year, and would love to land a room there again.

In reality, you're right in that it wouldn't be much more glamorous. But perception is reality.

As for the Citrus Bowl, it is a nice venue. Took my daughter there last summer for the Rolling Stones concert. I hope that the "purple haze" from that night has lifted.
