New NCAA rule in effect

Saw this and found it interesting. Beginning this season, the game clock will continue to run while the chains are reset after a made first down during the entire first and third quarters and all but the last two minutes of the second and fourth quarters. Could be a strategy changer.

It’s a decided advantage for a ball control offense.

Army Navy game will be 1 hour long.
I hate this rule. I hated it when it came out, and I hate it now. It'll just mean more TV timeouts and fewer plays.
I cringe to think about how often teams are going to screw up clock management.

It should move at a pace similar to the NFL.

NCAA wants to limit the number of plays per game…

I imagine this helps the under hit quite a bit this year.

College football is the only sport where I don’t worry about pace of play. Take all the time you want. I LITERALLY have nothing better to do.

I agree, I have never thought to myself, 'this college football game just takes too long'.

Agreed. College baseball different story. I love watching baseball when I have a team playing....but 3.5 to 4 hour college baseball games can be ridiculous. I get these are not major leaguers...but the amount of visits to the mound, etc. I also want pitch clock like MLB. I have watched more complete Reds games this year than I have in last 5...and not just because the are playing a little better than past years

It’s been put in for player safety.

Essentially for those teams that make the playoffs. NCAA rosters are twice the size of NFL rosters and generally, you see more depth on the field every game. More plays and more series make the college game more enjoyable than the NFL. In the NFL, it's not unusual for an offense to get 3 or 4 series a half. That's a diluted product.

It was put in for money. The media has to fit games into particular time windows. This makes it easier to do that. There is no need to wonder why anything is done in college football; it is for money.

I'm sure that was a factor, but it was also sold as a safety issue. It will definitely reduce the number of plays and thus opportunities for injury.

These guys lift all off-season, go through Spring practice, fall camp, etc. They put in all of that work to play on Saturdays. I could be wrong, but I bet most of the players are not looking for fewer snaps per game.

Less plays… less concussions and other major injuries.

I dig the change.
Next they need to change the targeting rule. Not what they consider targeting, because there will always be subjectivity involved, but the instant ejection
The majority of target plays are ones where there was no ill intentions involved. In my opinion should be an unsportsmanlike penalty, carrying the 15 yards. And of course two of those matter if the first was for taunting, then you're out of the game.
