Practice Update
Has anyone been checking in on the Men's Basketball practices? The last update on AppStateSports was on 10/16 and it had very little info. What happened to video reports or at least a few paragraphs every day or two? Are we that short handed staff wise after Cobb took his minions to GSU?

Thanks. I didn't know out Scout site was so active with articles and updates. Good insight into the progress of the hoops squad.hapapp wrote:The latest from Scout: http://appalachianstate.scout.com/story ... ball?s=518JTApps1 wrote:Has anyone been checking in on the Men's Basketball practices? Re: Practice Update
I had the opportunity to meet Coach Fox yesterday and I had two takeaways from our conversation.
1. This guy is impressive, he is going about rebuilding this program the right way. First step is academics, second step will be getting players that are first tough, play disciplined, and can shoot.
2. We are going to have to be patient, the SBC is a step up from the SoCon and we don't have the players currently to fit his ideal system. He will tweak his system to fit the athletes we do have, but he would prefer more perimeter shooting.
It does sound like the guys that stayed are buying in to him.
He must have used the word "toughness" half a dozen times during the discussion. I'm looking forward to what he can bring to App, but it is going to be a rebuilding process as we transition to a better conference.
Coach Fox is a very candid guy and really a joy to talk to. He mentioned he'll be at the Tapp Room after every game and I'd recommend a conversation with him for sure.

Re: Practice Update
I so far have been very impressed with this hire, I think he may be the best hire Cobb has ever had. Of course Ole Corn Cobb stumbled into him and wanted someone else, but who cares if the product improves.
As always it will all remain to be seen on the court.

Re: Practice Update
Do us a favor and don't call for him to fired when we only win 10 or so games this year. As a reminder we won 5 D1 games none against teams under 300 in RPI.

I already got what I wanted when Capel's office was packed up. Thus my enthusiasm here, my you get bent out of shape quickly.Saint3333 wrote:Do us a favor and don't call for him to fired when we only win 10 or so games this year. As a reminder we won 5 D1 games none against teams under 300 in RPI.

Re: Practice Update
I'm already thinking about the Charlotte game on December 18th. My game plan is for the wife and I to drive down to Charlotte on the 18th, watch a great basketball game, then probably spend the night at a local hotel, and on Friday, goof off around Charlotte, perhaps get some Christmas shopping in.

Re: Practice Update
I fully expect App to be much improved in the fundamentals under Fox and that alone will be a big improvement. Build the basics like defense, rebounding, free throw shooting and ball handling and the rest will come with improved athletes and better recruits.
