Open Practice

Unread post by DaphneUrquhart » Wed May 28, 2014 7:51 am

I had the pleasure of having dinner with several App folks last evening. Jim Fox was there to share a little more on his plans for the upcoming season. The plans for engagement with the students and fans are encouraging and include open practices and hanging out at tAPProom following each home game to hear from fans (win or lose).

One of the folks was also commenting on a practice he'd seen with Coach Fox. One of the players handed the ball to another after shooting a free throw. Fox made the player take the ball back and bounce pass it to his teammate. Every action is intended to improve skills - even a seemingly trivial thing like shooting free throws in practice.

Hopefully, the best laid plans will not go astray. 8-)

Player mindset and expectations will change and so will the results.

By December I will be wondering what Capels brother meant by his disparaging App struggles....coach Fox will prove those struggles wrong quickly

I am very excited to watch really good basketball !!

GeezLouise...We now have a men's head basketball coach who actually has a master plan. It's been a while (far too long) between guys who actually "get it." Jim Fox gets it. I've ordered my season tickets (for the 48th straight year*) for the new season and can't wait. Hope I'm still here to see the progress. I certainly plan to be in my seats with wife and friends unless our Good Lord has other plans for me.

*Note...yeah, that number is accurate and it's s-u-r-r-e-a-l. Are you kidding me? 48? Seems more like 48 months. It flies by soooooooooooooooooooooo fast.

They had "tickets" back then. I guess yours was a rock with the info carved on it. In fact I think I remember seeing a couple of those in the Museum of Natural History last time I was there. :D

Hey, watch it, kid. :) BTW, rocks were too heavy or maybe they weren't invented yet. They used Magnolia leaves from the big tree on the Newland Hall lawn...painted 'em Black & Gold and numbered 'em with white ink.

Can't wait to take shots of Fireball Whiskey with Coach Fox after a game at Tapp Room.

This is a page out of the Davidson playbook. Their coaches and players meet and greet fans at the Brickhouse Tavern after every home game; and have been doing it for years without any problems. All that's required is a little common sense and self-control on everyone's part. It works for McKillop in building a loyal fan base and turning out fans for games (students, faculty and locals).

Isn't it nice that all of us are excited about a coach and not insulting each other's opinion? And Daphne...what the latest on band numbers? Is the new guy getting it done?

I don't have any band info. I'm guessing we won't know much on that until fall gets here. Any band folks here with info on the marching band forecast for fall?
