If replacing a loser like Jason Capel is a deal breaker for a player, I wouldn't want them on the team anyway.

Cheers to a fresh start with players who can win.

Best of luck to Ty.

you would think that a player would be thrilled to play for a new coach after the season they had last year, poor coaching, bad attitudes, no support from the fans, basically, one of the worst teams in the country, yet, players are bailing left and right. I don't know if it is because Fox is encouraging them to leave, or you have players afraid to work and earn their positions again, buy in any case alot of players are heading for the doors.

Leaving may not be a sign of allegiance to our old coach. Perhaps some players were not happy, but may have been willing to stay out of a sense of commitment. They might see a long road back for the program and may see this as a great time to jump ship from a program that has not lived up to their hopes/expectations.

I agree that if they do not want to be here, its better to leave now so all can have a fresh start.

This may have been a situation where he was already on the fence and dealing with another coach was just the tipping point. Kind of like if you're thinking of taking a new job, then your boss leaves.

We don't know if he was considering leaving regardless. I see no reason to cast aspersions. Kids have to do what they think is in their best interests. Unless Fox finds some replacements, we are going to start the season down a good number of players. This rebuilding process may take longer than many have hoped. Good thing he has a 5 year contract, it may be that long before we are north of .500.

You are exactly right hapapp - Why do these kids have to be attacked on here? - here's a quote from the NCAA site ---

"That said, about 40% of all MBB players who enter Division I directly out of high school depart their initial school by the end of their sophomore year."

I wonder how much of that turnover is due to kids transferring vs kids dropping out of college due to grades or other matters.

Appears we were going to lose scholarships due to APR issues anyway, so we might as well get started on it. I'm with Coach Fox, if they don't want to be at App let 'em go. Understand Fox's workouts were pretty brutal, perhaps too tough for some. Best of luck to those guys. Going to need better players anyway.

Seems we're a sinking team and everyone is jumping ship. This has been in play, the recruiting process for our players took place before Fox was even named. Given our record, there is no one that can't be replaced.

Think that's a key point here. With scholarship losses likely, Fox would have his hands tied recruiting if we didn't have any attrition. Not speaking specifically about Toney here, but in general, I would imagine Fox isn't terribly worried about some players leaving if it helps him get more of his own guys in here faster.

If Fox can turn this program around in 5 years he will become a very rich man.

agree, I want players at App who want to be there, its doesn't bother me if we only have 7 or 8 players on the team next year

After he gets what he can. Fill the rest of the roster for the first year with club players. Have student tryouts. It would fill out the roster for practices and with a minute to go in a blowout either way put one in and watch the students go crazy. Let's have some fun

That was going to happen anyway. It's traditional at most schools to hold a day or two of try-outs to fill out the roster with good students who can also play basketball at a practice level or higher.

It's a shame. Toney was a guy I was thinking would stick around based on the late surge of PT he got at the end of the year. Oh well. If we are going to start with a clean slate, might as well make it as clean as possible. The urgency though now to bring in new players is pretty high. Flomo would have been a huge help, but he's likely gone too.

Don't want to play the what if game...but think about the number of guards we have lost out on in the last two years. If we lose Flomo, you can add him to Albrecht and you know who. I will say this, the Capel staff was able to find some undetected talent. Of course, once we found them, they distinguished themselves enough for bigger fish to come along and gobble them up.

I agree. I think we probably could have gotten up an all star team from the intramural squads that could have given our varsity a good game and maybe beat them. Don't see any losses as bad. Start over ,I don't care how many games we win next yr. Three to four years from now is what I'm interested in.
