This game is encouraging in that all-everything Mountaineer forward Maryah Sydnor was held scoreless by Furman in the first half; but the Apps still went to the break with the lead. This appears to be a sign that some of the young Apps are coming of age. Sophomores Bria Huffman and KeKe Cooper tallied 10 points each in the half to lead the Apps.
In the second half, with Furman having to mark Huffman and Cooper more closely, Sydnor came alive to finish the game with her characteristic double-double--14 points and 10 boards.
As SpeedKing mentioned in the previous post, the first-place Chattanooga Mocs are up next--Saturday--at the Roundhouse in RiverCity. (Yeah, I know the arena's name, but it'll always be the Roundhouse to me.)
Jim Foster's Mocs are #2 in the Mid-Major poll--one vote behind Gonzaga. They stand 19-3 overall and a perfect 11-0 in in SoCon play. They'll be playing for win #20 against the Apps--the only SoCon team to seriously challenge them this season. The last game between the two rivals went to overtime before UTC slipped away from The High Country with a win.
Darcie Vincent lives for games like this. She probably doesn't have quite enough puzzle pieces this season to pull off an upset on the Mocs' home court, but it's guaranteed to be interesting!
