We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Basketball Reunion Pictures

Unread post by asutrnr81 » Tue Feb 04, 2014 5:27 pm

Hey guys,

Please find below some pictures from the Basketball Reunion from last Saturday. Included are some Coach Light Pics that I will cherish for a long time. As I shook his hand Saturday it seemed to take me back to my first days on Campus in 1977.

Here is the link to the pics and instructions on downloading. Please share with anyone you think would like them. It is all FREE!

I will throw a thank you in for my youngest Tyler, who "edited" dad's best attempt at photography.

Here is the pertinent's as the Geico Commercial says:

I tried to find the easiest and quickest and most reliable method of picture delivery.

The reason for sending the files using this method instead of emailing directly is the file size is too big to email. (i.e. the picture was taken with a camera whose pixel size was very high and the resolution of the pictures give you greater clarity).

Go to the following link by clicking on it:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/116292276@ ... 460124336/

Once on the link you can select the pictures you want.

Here is how you download the picture:

Once on the site click on the picture you want by clicking on the arrow at the far lower right hand corner.

Once that picture pops up you will see three small dots again on the far right.

Click on the dots and you will see the word download.

Click on download and choose a place on your computer that you want to save the pictures.

Click Save and the picture is yours.

If for some reason you can’t get what you want I will work with any of you to get you the pics you want. This was going to be the quickest!
Good Luck

I recognize a few faces. But most I don't know, at least by the picture. Can anyone describe a few pictures?

0833 isn't on your list, but the guy in the center w/gray V-neck sweater and glasses-on-a-cord is Dr. Gerald Francis, former Provost and now Exec VP at Elon. Gerry Francis was an uber-smart mathematics major and basketball player in '62-'65. He was a 2G/SF for Coach Bob Light.

He's practically your next door neighbor. Who knew? :D

0836...from right to left or from back to front...the tall, lanky guy with the curly "fro" and mustache is Dr. KInny Baughman of the ASU Math/Computer Science/Distance Learning faculty. Kinny Baughman was a F/C for Coach Light in '64-'67 or thereabouts. The short, white-bearded "Yosef" in the black, hooded sweatshirt is Robert Tate of Banner-Elk. Bobby Tate was a PG for Coach Light and Coach Maravich. In case you hadn't noticed, he's quite the free spirit. :D He's the owner of Tate Real Estate Development & Construction Co.

I'll eventually remember the others. Can't put names with 'em right now.

0881 Man in blue to left is Dr. Richard Howe, a member of the ASU Chancellor's staff from the mid 70's 'til about 2008. He was the university V-C for compliance...Affirmative Action/EEOC/Equity/Diversity/Title IX. Rick Howe was a F/C for Coach Light before my time. He's a member of the App Athletics Hall of Fame. He's retired from administration and is a prof. in the College of Ed.

Looking at the picture of the framed ring belonging to Coach Robinson. Was that presented to him or was that something he brought up. I have watched him coach a lot of games and he is a great one. Talk about a guy who can get more out of players than anyone would ever think. Saw him win games against teams with much better players dozens of times.

It was the athletic department's "image" of what the rings would look like. He took it home with him! As he should have!

The '79 team did NOT get rings for their championship as it was not "common" in that era. They were measured for rings that will be bought by the former athletes association. Nice Gesture!

Thanks, I will do so.

BTW, Chip, I haven't taken time to thank you and Tyler for making this "album" available to us. It is highly appreciated.

Also, I never got a call from anyone about the Betamax videos of that '79 Championship game. They're available--but I can't vouch for the quality. Can't handle the format any more. Hope the department found/finds some usable file footage somewhere.

I think I am going to begin working seriously on some of this old stuff. I need a windmill to joust and helping the department compile and archive some of the stuff we can put together would be a labor of love. Got to figure some things out....but want to begin somewhere. Jim Jones is doing a book and that should id some critical "people" with whom we may can start the archive searches for. There is some crazy stories from "back in the day"

As for the Album....you and all are quite welcome! Anything ASU is a labor of love!

881 -person to the right of Cantwell was a guard... is Kevin Galloway. At least I am pretty sure it is. Sad to say I haven't seen Kev in 30 years. Have talked to his brother Chip some though. BlackSat might be able to verify.

Lots of familiar faces. Dang how did we get so old so quick.

Thanks for posting Chip.

Glad to hear they are getting rings. Wish we could get coach Robinson to come back and take over the next head coaching job whenever it comes available. Not going to happen but I can wish.

Daryll would have been a far to the 12th power better choice for the job than Capel was. Had he stayed when he was an assistant, he'd be our head coach now. As I recall, Daryll's wife wasn't up for all the time he'd have to be away from home--particularly time when their son would be playing at Clemson. One has to wonder how that might have changed since the son has graduated and moved on. Hmmmm.

I think Shawan is still playing overseas. Talk about a great kid. He was also an Academic All- ACC for 4 years. He takes after both parents. He got a teaching degree and plays BB overseas. The whole family are great people. I got to know his mom and dad at the games they would come and watch him coach. He is at Wake Forest High now teaching and coaching. I have great respect for "Coach Rob". When it came to his players he was a lot like JM.
