App St MBB at Elon

Unread post by asu66 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 12:26 am

ASU will try again to win its first Division I game and first road game of the season Monday evening at Elon's Alumni Gym. The Apps are coming off of an embarrassing 24 pt. loss at A10 doormat Duquesne last Thursday evening. Despite the return of Jay Canty, the Apps were...well...terrible. They made the very mediocre Dukes look far better than they are in all reality.

Elon, the SoCon's highest-RPI-rated team so far this season, has been up and down in route to its 5 - 7 record. The Phoenix sport an RPI of 100--largely on the basis of its good strength of schedule. In its most recent two games--at Duke and at Western Carolina, the Phoenix have seen the wheels come off. At WCU on Saturday evening, Elon committed 23 turnovers and had the ball stolen by Western 14 times in a 74-62 loss. Couple that with its almost annual blow-out loss to Duke, and the Phoenix will be glad to be getting back home.

Elon's roster is packed with big bodies and pure shooters. With both height and shooting advantages and a close to the action partisan crowd; it's likely to be a long night for the Apps.

In addition, the numbers game points to a big night for Elon. The Apps' RPI of #344 is the seventh worst in all of NCAA Div. I. Only six teams have a worse RPI. That #344 ASU ranking is 244 positions below Elon. How surreal is that? RealTimeRPI.com has Elon as a blow-out winner--by a score close to 90-56. ASU is given only a 3.5% probability of winning.

ASU is 0-7 on the road this season; while Elon is a perfect 3-0 at home. Someone's streak could be coming to an end. Our good guys need a win badly!

If the Apps win, both streaks will be coming to an end.

This might be behind a paywall, but it is from this morning's Greensboro News and Record.

From the WS Journal.

"One possible glimmer of hope for all Southern Conference teams is that no league team seems unbeatable. Entering Saturday’s opening wave of conference games, no SoCon team had a winning record, and the SoCon ranks 29th out of 31 conferences in RPI."

If we can't win in this league.......

Maybe today is the day- after all, we've known all along that it "would be a cold day" when we won a D-1 game.

Well that's a relief. With my glasses off, I keep mistaking Elon for '72 UCLA.

Can't wait to get blown out in a cracker box. What a sorry league we're leaving and what a sorry coach we're stuck with.

I'm feeling good about tonight. I think we'll keep them under 100 points and the margin will be less than 30.

With that as a "feel good" performance metric it just shows how bad it currently is. I would love to see these kids win a game just to build some confidence and hope.

Well, excuse me, John. I started mine yesterday and didn't realize you had exclusive rights to MMB threads. You just go right ahead. I'll bow out and let you have it lock, stock and barrel. Knock yourself out. I'll be sure to check with you before I ever start another thread.

I wasn't being a smart arse. I was just trying to save you some effort with a current running score thread. If it offended you, I apologize, although I don't see why my comment upset you. Just trying to relieve the tension of such a lousy game and let those outside of WKBC' s signal know what was going on..

I didn't do a d thing except mention there was another thread with just the scores..

FWIW, it received 444 views. What harm did it do?

Replying to yourself 16 times and constantly bumping your own thread in the process to do the same job that a box score, goasu, or radio can do and now getting your panties in a wad is just kind of sad. Having a couple hundred views doesn't make you relevant, right, significant, or worth more than someone elses post......"FWIW"

I think this is a double technical for cussing. :!: time for you to go to the locker room and think about what you've done!

I think I mentioned that some were out of WKBC's signal reach. What does bumping a thread mean?

The question is why didn't you simply begin posting running scores in this thread? After all it is titled App St MBB at Elon. FWIW, your post to Chuck came across as very condescending.

Back to our regularly scheduled program............

Too bad App got so far behind to begin with, but at least the performance by Canty shows that there is still hope for some SoCon victories. Sounds like he was the best player on the court tonight.
