UNCC @ App State

Unread post by Gonzo » Sun Dec 08, 2013 1:04 pm

*The first UNCC related thread I have ever started on the MMB*

Well I wasn't able to make it up today, but I will be streaming the game. Hoping for and expecting a good crowd. Hoping for but not expecting a win. This might be the worst team we've ever put on the court, but there's magic in the Holmes Dome when UNCc comes to visit. Hoping for a repeat of last time.

Go Apps.

From the lack of pregame discussion here and on NinerNation.Net I am assuming that you guys are as excited about this game as we are. Niners are still moping about our poor performance and loss to Davidson. With the nasty weather up there I suspect the turnout of fans in green will be lighter than originally expected. The bright spot for us is that it was announced around 1:00 pm today that Pierria Henry will play. We look like a pick-up team without our point guard running the show so this is a big deal.

Well we're in a three-year period of moping known as the Capel regime. Excitement hasn't characterized this program in a year or two. I think our crowd will be bigger and rowdier than usual, or at least by our current standards. It wasn't always like this.

There are two dozen or more college basketball "power ratings" on the 'net. Depending on which ones I've looked at (From Sagarin to CBS Sports to RealTimeRPI to KenPom), Charlotte has a rating ranging from about #88 in the land up to about #120. ASU is pretty consistently ranked from #270 to #285. That makes Charlotte as much as an 18 point favorite to as little as a 3 point favorite.

Let's hope Charlotte's play is as ragged as today's weather is nasty. Our guys are due for a good performance after such a wretched start. Maybe we'll get that good performance and the Miners49ers will still be smarting over their home loss to a Davidson squad which wasn't at full strength. We're about to find out.

No prediction; just Give 'Em Hell, Apps!

I just hope we play better than the band is today. The are badly out of tune.

On another note, DJ and Krimmins are doing the TV.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Calling BigC; where are you? BigCASU, where are you and what are you thinking. You've been awfully quiet since the start of this BB season.

We finally made our first three after throwing one up on almost every single possession. There is no game plan. When we actually get a good look we miss the open shot. Hard to watch.

These players are terrible. This coach is terrible. I can't believe this man has made six figures for the last three years. No offensive set plays. No game plan. And when the players actually do get an open shot, they can't make it to save their lives.

We aren't going to win a single D-1 game all year. I do not exaggerate when I say this.

We would have trouble throwing it into the ocean. This team has no one who can consistently shoot the ball. We have no inside offensive presence.

Should have fired Capel at halftime.

First time watching our team. He have no PG and no interior defense. Couple that with a lack of shooting you have the recipe for a 300+ RPi team.

We are as sloppy as I've ever seen us. The experiment is over.

Men against boys! Painful to watch. Capel has his players--no more Fancher or Peterson leftovers to bank on. The results speak volumes. We're just dead meat!

Scouting report vs. App. Play zone. Pretty simple.

"We're gonna continue to get better" is Capel's go to line every presser. The program has steadily declined since the day he arrived.

This school deserves better.

And true to form, UNCC was shooting threes with that huge lead up until the final seconds. One of their assistant coaches walked over and cussed some App fans as well. Security had to stop him. Really classy bunch. I expect no less from a glorified community college.

Information is pouring in...

Indeed, UNCC assistant director of basketball operations Stephen Doughton crossed the court and screamed at the fans with the above pictured sign (all of whom are good friends of mine), calling them "F***ing idiots" and to a point where the security guard had to forcefully remove him.

Wow. Just, wow.
