9-4 Apps, 16:00 in the first half. Trice has knocked down two 3-pointers.
Long, long way to go but a good start. Game is streaming live on ESPN3.

Davidson just beat West Va in Old Spice Classic. They beat Vandy yesterday. They look to be tough this year. Eloan beat Gamecocks a couple days ago too. Apps tied at 36-36 now.

41-38 VT at the half. We've overcome a couple of nice runs and some real friendly whistles for the Hokies to keep it close. Overall, a nice first half.

Tech announcer just said that Appalachian was misspelled on Canty's jersey. Said it was spelled Appalachain.

This officiating is pathetic. Free throw disparity 34 to 15. That flagrant call was one of the worst basketball calls I've ever witnessed. I'm not even convinced that was a foul at all. It looked to me like Healy got all ball. Either way even after review they still called that flagrant, terrible. Good fight today guys it was 5 on 8.

Ugh. I dunno what's more embarrassing. This late game collapse or our uniforms being mis-spelled.

87-76 final. Tough game, I agree about the poor officiating. I do think the team is improving, 4 guys in double digits today.
Jay Canty had 21 points and 7 boards. That kid is the real deal, very likely an All-Conference player.

They played competitive today... Ran out of gas near end... FT misses stll hurting us, especially front end of 1 and 1's.

The front of his jersey was also misspelled.
Gonna be alot of moral victories this year. Mike, I admire your optimism.

I think our problems are 95% on the defensive end of the court.

Ha, it is a blessing and a curse. I'll keep my 'glass is half full' view for now but when we get into conference play, I expect some of these games to start going our way. Outside of Davidson, the SoCon is pretty weak. We also need to handle Duquesne at home.
On the road against an ACC team, being competitive is about all we can realistically hope for. Our first two games were downright embarrassing, I have liked our effort the last two. I've also been very impressed with Canty, he will score a ton of points in the SoCon.

Completely agree. We've got shooters but we give up way too many open looks. I was not expecting the world out of Okam but I was really hoping his size would at least help our interior defense. He has been a big disappointment, can't even get on the court.

We still give up too many points off turnovers and fast break points.
I do think we are going to be pretty good offensively. Canty is proving to be the star that everyone hoped he would be. If we can keep the guys inside from getting into foul trouble, we can hold our own their within the conference. I think Baskin can be a force in the paint if he can avoid foul trouble.
It has been a slow start but we are showing some live and the important part of the season is conference play. Hopefully, by the time conference play is in full swing we will be competitive.
