ASU @ Campbell: Game Thread

I know we are all still fighting that awful taste in our mouths from the High Point loss but it is time to move on. Tonight, we face another Big South opponent in Campbell. However, while HPU stomped the Apps and cruised past SoCon North favorites UNCG, the Fightin' Camels beat DIII Averett by 19 points in the opener and then lost by 4 to Northwestern State.
We were sloppy and out of sorts all night against High Point. Now that we have faced a DI opponent, hopefully this team will make some adjustments, tighten up the defense and take care of the ball better the second time around.
I may be crazy for doing so, but I plan to purchase the one-game pass from BigSouthSports.com for $4.95 and watch the game live. Best case, I get to see ASU break into the win column against DI competition and worst case, a lazy Friday night costs me $5 and a 6-pack of cold beer.
Cannot even venture a prediction after our last performance but I am hoping for the Apps to pull out a close W and start to get this train back on the tracks.
Go App!

Hate to break it to you but Saragin says they lose by 9. But thats why they play the game. So we will see. They return all thier players that only lost to ASU by three last year.

I sure hope something good happens tonight. That High Point game was horrible. We need good play out of Burgess and Canty. Also we need to get Eaves into the game, he looked really good against Montreat (I know its Montreat). Eaves looked like he could really shoot the basketball, and boy it looked like we needed some scoring last time out.
Go Apps!!!

This is painful to listen to. Campbell is awful, yet we're still losing by double digits.

No less painful to watch. Not as bad as the High Point game but we are sloppy. Made a nice run to get it down to 4 but gave it right back.
There aren't the huge holes in our defense that there were on Tuesday since we've gone to man-to-man but they are getting a lot of second chance points and shooting the lights out.

Two consecutive 3-pointers and we are down by 15.
40-25, 6:00 to go in the 1st. This is very, very bad.

These announcers whine about the refs more than the guys who call Samford football. I can't imagine how obnoxious they'd be if they weren't sitting on a double-digit lead.

There is no excuse for being down by 15-20 points against Campbell. ASUMike, thanks for the update since you have video. Keep em coming because its hard to tell whats going on via the radio.

Charleston is up by 1 on Auburn at the half. Not that Auburn is very good.

We are knocking down some jump shots, penetrating and getting to the line.
Our problems are all on defense and in transition. They are getting out, running and they are hitting EVERYTHING. Some are open but they are knocking down contested jumpers, up-and-under layups over defenders, inadvertent bank shots and a couple of the ones they have missed were so bad that they got a long rebound. Campbell is on fire and having every bounce go their way.
55-39 at the half
We have to be better than this.

Yep, and Chattanooga led Kansas for about the first 30 minutes yesterday. We have a couple teams that are going to absolutely embarrass us if we don't improve quickly and significantly.

66-44, 17:00 to play. Capel calls TO.
Campbell knocked down another mid-range jumper, got a steal and did a windmill dunk. They are just showboating now, this is humiliating.

Without a PG, this team is likely toast every night. We can't apparently play any defense either. Both HPU and Campbell have had their way. Going to be a looong season. I hate to see what happens when we play teams at the next level.

Mike Neal is not going to save this team.

Too late for this one but we've scored 6 straight to make it 85-70, 6:00 to go. We are at least showing some fight in the second half.

True, I'm not sure any one player could. He will make us better though.

89-75, 5:00 to go.
Trice blew an open layup a few minutes ago that led to an open dunk for Campbell. Make the gimme and we've got a 10-point game.
