MBB: App State at Davidson Belk Arena Davidson

Unread post by asu66 » Sat Nov 12, 2016 7:37 pm

Jim Fox and the Apps kick it off on the shores of Lake Norman with our ol' "friends" from Davidson of the A10. McKillop has put together an A10 worthy roster and we should be in for a physical contest. Both teams have blowout exhibition wins over in-state DII teams. Now it's for-keeps!

Here's the opposition for tonite... http://davidsonwildcats.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball

Just realized Davidson's star Jack Gibbs (23 PPG last year) isn't playing tonight. Could be an opportunity for the Apps to get a confidence-building win here on the road early in the season

This is true, but App played the majority of the 1st half w/o Shabazz and Tyrell Johnson. both in foul trouble. so the Mountaineers maintaining the lead is even more impressive.

Jake Wilson looks like someone who could be a player this year. having a 7 footer to alter shots and get rebounds can always help

Apps surrender the lead, take it back, and then give it up again.

Good showing so far, college basketball is getting so hard to watch with all the fouls called however.

What I'm seeing tonight is night and day from the last few years as far as toughness and execution. Kelvin Robinson does not look like a freshman at all, T Johnson and Kinney are much improved, P Good is also very poised for a freshman. I'm guessing that this will be a turning point season for Jim Fox and company. I hope he stays in Boone for a while.

Jake Babic said it all on the post-game show..."it was a two-point game until just under three minutes to play. Then they punched us in the mouth and we just didn't respond."

Yep, Wilson might not show up much in the scoring column, but his presence was definitely felt in the post with the altered and blocked shots. We are quick, athletic, and the chemistry looks better than I've seen in 17 years in our program. I like this team. I hope they can translate all the positives into wins. Davidson is a good model to aspire for. Great support from students and alums. The big difference is that they have lots of fans/alumni that live in the area and can easily make it to games to show support.

Was at game, I think the fans and students will fall in love with this team. Great effort for 36 minutes. By the way they played Sweet Carolina by Neil Diamond and Davidson students and fans absolutely blew the roof singing along. What a novel idea for a one time sing along at one of our football games.

I was also at the game. Kinney has really improved, and Johnson is bigger and playing with more confidence. The 7-footer (Wilson) who transferred from LR is going to help us; he's not as much of a project as I was expecting. We hustled after every loose ball, played good D, took care of the ball, and crashed the boards. I saw more potential than I have seen since Fox took over. We are still building, but I think this team is capable of winning quite a few Sun Belt games.

Agree that this team looks far better then last year in terms of execution and confidence. Very solid effort right out the gates. I'd imagine we'll be competitive this year in the Sunbelt and hopefully we can build on these starters for the next couple years...
