Why wouldn't you want to play App as well as Davidson every year? With the amount of travel we all have these days it makes sense to play each other. The games are always close between the 3 schools and well attended.Nugget49 wrote:I really wasn't attacking App. I was responding to NewApp's assertion that Charlotte had no fans. No need to attack us for our attendance. We know where we stand since leaving Varsity. Our average wouldn't fill Schaeffer. Although it might be more appropriate, given that the program has been such a tragedy as of late.
I'm more excited for this season than I've been in quite some time though. Maybe we revisit the numbers later.
Truthfully I hope that your new coach works out, and you get back on track. App has embarrassed us a couple of times in the last decade, but I would still like to schedule the occasional game between our schools.
Why don't we have a nice hanging scoreboard in Holmes?

It looks like there will be plenty of seats for the black and gold faithful come 2018.Gonzo wrote:If we're going to be patronized about UNCc basketball attendance, it's worth mentioning that, as of yesterday, 661 of 7,500 student tickets for this Saturdays UNCc football have been claimed. Here's a shot of last weeks game AT GAME TIME against the #2 (at the time, #1 as of Monday) team in the FCS -- the biggest UNCc football game to date.
Now, what were you saying about UNC Charlotte's fanship and attendance?

Are you sure that's not a field hockey game getting ready to start? I know that crowd is a little small for field hockey but still, I think you are just trying to make them look bad.JTApps1 wrote:It looks like there will be plenty of seats for the black and gold faithful come 2018.Gonzo wrote:If we're going to be patronized about UNCc basketball attendance, it's worth mentioning that, as of yesterday, 661 of 7,500 student tickets for this Saturdays UNCc football have been claimed. Re: Why don't we have a nice hanging scoreboard in Holmes?
Thank you JT for an actual intelligent question. We do play Davidson every year. We battle for the Hornets' Nest Trophy, otherwise known as the "Brain on a stick". It may be the ugliest trophy in sports. We do not play App every year, but we do rotate around between App, UNC-A, UNC-G, and ECU. Like you, we complain that UNC-CHeat and NCSU rarely play us so we make sure that we play our sister schools regularly. I generally don't expect to play you any more often, or any less.JTApps1 wrote:Why wouldn't you want to play App as well as Davidson every year? Now may be a good time to mention that I didn't come here to drag this thread off topic, and I certainly didn't come here to get dragged off topic, but I have rarely seen a thread with even a hint of Charlotte near it that did not attract certain posters that think calling us UNC-c or UNC-Harrisburg is a hoot. Fart jokes must just kill them. Whatever.
In an attempt to get back on topic, you should check with the people that market your sports. They may be able to get you better scoreboards for free, or at least a good cost. We probably paid for our inital scoreboard when we built Halton 18 years ago, but the video board upgrades (twice since then) were done for free. It is the channel the marketing company (now IMG College) uses to sell ads. If not now, then once you get hoops back on track you should have some leverage. Fun Fact: When we opened Halton Arena, you were our first game.

I definitely agree that the cheapshots at UNCC are unnecessary, but let's not pretend it doesn't go on on your website pretty frequently, or at least it did last time I looked. ie. Tweetsie Tech, "program going down in flames", one trick pony, basketball attendance

Cheap shots? The guy comes in here saying that our home basketball schedule has been that of a high school and then brags that our attendance added to Davidson's attendance is less than theirs.BurlingtonApp wrote:I definitely agree that the cheapshots at UNCC are unnecessary, but let's not pretend it doesn't go on on your website pretty frequently, or at least it did last time I looked. ie. There's never been a better time to post a photo of their 12 football fans.

Re: Why don't we have a nice hanging scoreboard in Holmes?
You are probably right. I don't even mind smart smack talk. It is the dumb stuff (like Tweetsie Tech) that is just so middle school. If we did not care enough to stick it to the other fans then there would be no reason to play each other, but at the end of the day we are more alike than we are different, or comfortable admitting. I do have an interest in what is going on up the mountain so I like stopping by here every week or two, but I try to remember that I am a guest on your board. Sometimes I get pulled into the silliness, but I try to avoid it and totally ignore certain posters.BurlingtonApp wrote:I definitely agree that the cheapshots at UNCC are unnecessary, but let's not pretend it doesn't go on on your website pretty frequently, or at least it did last time I looked. ie. Anyway, good luck with your new hoops coach. We are starting year 5 with ours and it just now looks like we may be turning the corner, so be patient.

So JTApps1 was serious? That really was a football game at their place? I am soooo sorry for my field hockey remark. How embarrassing. I feel bad for them now. Do you think they can make their attendance requirements to stay FBS?Gonzo wrote:Cheap shots? Well they reported 12k for the game in the picture. If GaSt can lie their way to compliance, I'm sure their carbon copy in Harrisburg can do the same.bcoach wrote:So JTApps1 was serious? Gee I am kind of worried about it. I really wanted to play them one day. Do you think we should all chip in and buy some tickets so they will still be there?Gonzo wrote:Well they reported 12k for the game in the picture. You left out those who refer to UNC-C as a glorified community college. My daughter attended UNC-C and it was everything but a community college.Nugget49 wrote:Thank you JT for an actual intelligent question. We do play Davidson every year.
