We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Nothing at all against them, but neither McMahon nor Fancher will be part of the coaching staff at ASU.
It shouldn't happen. It won't happen. End of story.

So far, it appears that the only thing that is coming to fruition here is that the search is dragging on and we still have no coach. Once again, sounds eerily similar to Mr. Cobb's last BB hiring. Broad net nationwide search then several days later hire Capel. Have I missed something here?

One thing about Cobb and coaching searches is that he's lazy. And that goes for all sports. He doesn't go out and get someone he doesn't have any sort of familiarity with. However, if Jim Fox is anything like Bob McKillop then the program is in store for some sunnier skies. The Davidson people I've spoken to are very sad he's leaving. Did a hell of a job recruiting there.

It's known that he has contacts literally all over the world. He's probably already made calls to a small number of folks saying..."will you come work with me if I accept this position?"

I recall that Mack Brown did this before accepting the head football coaching job after Jim Brakefield's retirement. A couple of phone lines were pulled into the old Yosef Club Room in Owens Fieldhouse at Mack's request. He spent five or six hours calling to make sure he could get the assistants he wanted before he agreed to accept the position. On the day he was introduced as our new head coach, Mac already had his assistant coaches lined up and making arrangements to move.
It's discussion for fun. If you only allowed people to post when their input was needed by the coaches or administrators, this board would remain constantly blank.

The search is over and has been for days. The official announcement is coming. They were following the age old request of the NCAA not to make announcements during the Final 4 weekend. That request is old school now and with social media it's almost impossible to keep something hidden but we have stuck by it anyway. Expect the official announcement anytime. Also expect the official announcement any day that both of our 2014 recruits have been granted release from their LOI's. Already being reported by multiple sites online. Graham will be next. Then the rebuilding truly begins.

Some folks here seem to think people are clamoring for this job. I have no idea how broad the search has been but if no one that meets the criterion established wants the job, then you can't hire someone who meets those standards. Bobby Lutz would have but he obviously was not interested. I'm not defending the job the AD has done but I'm not convinced this is an easy position to fill with someone who has D1 head coaching experience.

That's what I was saying all along even though most on here were simply thinking out loud. One or two or more posters were even talking about contacting Cobb by e-mail.

To me, the problem isn't hiring a coach that doesn't meet those standards; the problem was Cobb publicly stating those when he didn't need to. Head coaching experience should have been considered a nice-to-have, but not a must. Prioritizing Sun Belt familiarity never made any sense and mainly just gave the appearance that he thought he had Lutz sewn up and was tailoring his search criteria to fit the guy he was already planning to hire.

Didn't you know the Sun Belt plays with a trapezoid lane, the basket is 11 1/2 feet high, the 3 point line goes from 14 feet at the end line to mid court in a big bubble, they only allow 4 seconds for the inbound pass and 7 seconds to pass mid court, layups are 1 point and free throws 2, and a shot from the logo at mid court is 10 points. They also have a guy that runs around with a bucket that could be filled with water or confetti. You never know which. Guess they wanted a coach with Sun Belt experience since playing there is so different. Looks like Coach Fox has a bit of work to do to learn the Belt rules. ;)

I agree, just sound like another inexperience move. Seems like he had someone in mind already that then pulled his name of the list.

Here is an interesting name from App State's past I hope the new coach will take time to give a phone interview:

Ahmad Smith - was on Houston's staff at App before coaching in Ireland. He's currently on staff at Charleston Southern.

When you are shopping for a Cup Car built by Hendrick MS, and find out you can only afford a Waltrip Toyota....after you start looking...It is ok to have looked at and even test driven a Chevy....for those of you criticizing CC.

Frankly I like the Fox hire and the time and effort CC put into this decision!

I agree that he shouldn't put such limits on the search. My guess is he wanted to reassure folks he was going to hire another untested coach. But he went a bit overboard unless he really thought he was going to snag Lutz.

It's kind of funny. Normally Cobb has been criticized for being too closed mouthed and not giving information out. This time he communicates what he is targeting and he gets criticized for telling more than he should. Amazing! Damned if you do and damned if you don't!

I'm sure the search didn't go exactly like ANYONE wanted (Cobb included) but I think we wound up with a pretty good hire.
